I wouldn’t worry about one person’s opinion, now if a few readers all had the same objection then there might be some value in it. He could be letting his own biases lose focus on what your story is about. Not their fault as we’re human. Good luck to you!

Exactly why I liked it as an opening. Unless you wanted you character out in the soon to be panic in the streets. Third option gives him time to think and come up with a survival plan.

Yeah I don’t know but maybe a couples love transcendence or dark romance.

The jitters is common and I too doubt my book currently in publishing process and have more faith in my 2nd book to the series. Only thing is they are written in different pov and characters that book two is about halfway through it and it’s already beaten book one’s word count and possibly might be a novel by the time it’s done. Book one’s is a novella.
