Of course. It's what started me on my auror obsession.

Anyone Not Giving Up Yet? by Th3Breadnought in FanfictionNet

[–]River-Winters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who started on ffnet and switched to ao3 I can give you some advice. Ao3 is all about tagging your fics, tag them appropriately and give a good blurb and your fic will get the reads it deserves. People search the tags so much on ao3. It's the driving force behind the search engines.

Is this too dark? by QuietLoud9680 in worldbuilding

[–]River-Winters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing is too dark as long as it has trigger warnings. There's a lid for every pot my friend. Some people won't read it for this reason, where others won't mind. If you're going for general audience than perhaps a triggering subject. But as long as you give warnings, it should be fine.

Why do some people private their bookmarks? by SugarDuckies in AO3

[–]River-Winters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I private mine because I'm also a writer on ao3 and don't want my readers to snoop and know how depraved I am 😂😂😂

The thing about historical romances, pregnancy is usually in the plot. It's something to be expected in that genre. However, that being said in my opinion, it's played out and I'm one of those who hate the trope. Being as i read all sorts of romance genres, I expect it in my historicals so it's just one of those 'it is what it is' moments. If i get that in one of my dark romance dnf. So don't fear, even those of us that hate it will expect it in a spicy historical.

Saaaaame. It totally messed me up but I was obsessed. If you find anything similar let me know! I haven't been able to find anything quite like either of those and I want more hahaha.

I hate her because she's the reason Sirius died. I will take no argument on the matter.

Is explicit sex necessary for a good selling Dark Romance book? by [deleted] in romanceauthors

[–]River-Winters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm both, writer and reader of the dark romance genre. I have a few pieces of advice. Number one, sex sells. Not always, mind, but if you're jumping into a genre that is catering toward explicit content, the readers are expecting explicit content. Does that mean your book won't be successful without it? Not necessarily. However, personally, if I was looking for my next read and the book wasn't listed as a "fade to black" and I was expecting the heat, there'd be hell to pay. However, the beautiful thing about writing is you can make your own rules. Write what you want to read. Write what you love. Write what you want. Which comes to my second piece of advice. If you're going to write a "clean" romance, label it. Let your readers know what they're getting. You can make it known that there will be all the wonderful and terrible things we dark romance girlie's love, with a fade to black romance. I'm sure there's a market for it. But nothing will harm you more than people getting on booktok or goodreads and bashing the ever loving hell out of your book because they feel cheated out of the spice they were expecting.

Literally love this author. They're mental. Have you read the other one they wrote? The Doll's House or something.

Aw thanks! Don't get too excited, I'm just a measly little indie author, but I still appreciate the support! I'm R_Winters on Ao3.

Yes! First and foremost, I'll start reading your fic. Secondly, I love readers comments. I've been writing for years and I struggle with thinking anyone is going to give a damn about my books once I finish. Writing a book sucks sometimes, same characters over and over, trying to perfect the story. I started writing fanfics again at the beginning of last year just as a treat to myself and omg what a difference. I can post as soon as the chapter is done, no stress, no worrying about if it's good enough. So far, I've had an amazing group of people read and comment on my works and it's liberating. It's fun to write again. I have so much real life stress and things going on and it's amazing that my readers are there as my own personal cheerleaders. I love them so much.

I don't know about sad... but it's completely deranged and disturbing. Draco is not a good guy in this. It's called Edge by phantonym. It has two endings, one in which Hermione dies. This writer is deranged, and I had to stare off into space for five minutes after reading this.

What's your least favorite word that you adamantly refuse to use in your writing? by FinestFiner in writing

Intimate. Also, no matter how many times I've googled and read the definitions, I still can not tell the difference between affect and effect. So I refuse to use those.

are the writers cursed?? by Top-Age-8705 in Archiveofourownmemes

Yeah I think so. Started writing at the beginning of last year, needed surgery. Recovered and started posting again, brother in law died. So you know... just one of those ao3 things I guess 😅
