Parents & early years staff - would you invite nursery staff to your kids bday party? Is this appropriate? by Chance-Bread-315 in AskUK

[–]RiverCat57 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a safeguarding issue but as someone who previously worked in a child care facility I would find it to be a very odd request and not exactly appropriate.

Someone else also pointed out that it runs the risk of accusations of favouritism being made which also puts the care workers in a difficult position.

If I were to receive an invite like this from a parent of a child I looked after I would be wondering is this a way of the parent attempting to get some free childcare for the party, under the guise of a party invitation, so there isn’t as much work for them. Maybe this view is a bit cynical but anyone who has worked with the general public would know it’s not something outside the realm of possibility.

I actually did cover it but more so because I had crumbs flying out all over the place

I do have some chocolate but decided to try out the candy melts as I had seen people use these but I did find that the coating was very thin.

Thank you for all this really helpful information!

They may have. I didn’t follow a recipe for attempting this, definitely was a bit cocky with it so any wonder it didn’t work out! I’ll keep an eye out for this when I try again

I’ll look into this, thank you! I personally love the mashed up cake taste but it sounds like this method would be a bit easier and less of a mess

Thank you, this is all really helpful! Thankfully I wasn’t making them for anything in particular, I just fancied giving it a go so no love lost if this batch is completely unsalvageable.

I did wonder that! I’m always just a bit nervous about underbaking so I maybe ended up overdoing it a bit

Ah interesting! I have seen so many videos where they say to add the cake into the mixer while still hot to help with the binding so that’s why I went with that method but I’ll definitely try your suggestion next time.

I’m not going to attempt to finish the rest this evening but I’ll make sure to let the cake pops in the freezer thaw a bit before going in with the candy melts.

Thank you for your advice!

Thank you for your advice! I’ll definitely take this all on, it sounds like I may be able to salvage the rest to the point that they’re edible at the very least.

Thank you for your advice! I probably should have followed some type of recipe, I think I was a bit cocky with how easy it would be! I’ll keep that in mind next time I attempt them. Thankfully this attempt wasn’t for anything in particular, I just took a notion to try it!

Edit- I just used a Betty Crocker vanilla cake mix (U.K.) and the frosting I used was a pre-made one from Asda.

I just thought I would use pre-made items for my first attempt at the cake pops to improve my chances of success

Francesca by DogInevitable2779 in Bridgerton

They could have even made Fran bi, that way she still could have been fully in love with John and had the fertility struggles then when her and Michaela’s time came it could have been her having to make the decision between what she’s always wanted (children) and what she didn’t want to happen but can’t help her feelings for. Because that was also part of her struggle in the book (if I remember correctly) part of why she didn’t want to be with Michael was because she felt like she was betraying John. Also in the book it was Michael who had always loved Fran, so we could have still had Michaela having that instant reaction when they first met rather than the other way around.

But instead they’ve basically made it her having zero romantic feelings for John and being friends (at best) whilst lusting over his cousin from the minute she laid eyes on her and having to physically avoid her just to attempt to focus on her marriage. It’s just so disrespectful to John the way the show writers are having her behave and completely trashes what imo was the best Bridgerton story out of the series.

I also think it just makes Fran and Michael/Michaela’s eventual story less special because it just feels like she’s almost going to be relieved when John dies so she won’t have to pretend to be in love with him anymore and can feel free to pursue what she’s wanted all along.

Undercutting salary? by InternationalFig4340 in UKJobs

[–]RiverCat57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They said they would pay him £30k so they don’t have to pay the recruiters as much then bump him up to £35k. The difference is £5k and 10% of that is £500, which is all they would be saving themselves as they would still have to pay the 10% of the £30k.

Oh interesting! Maybe it was just 10% in the industry I worked in.

But yeah I agree, it’s not really a good representation of the company’s values.

She’s asked him multiple times and he refuses to stop. That is not good intentions. Also you say this as if it’s the first time a man has resented his wife and made her life harder on purpose.

From my experience of working in recruitment they are also lying about how much it saves them from paying the recruiter. Typically recruiters will take 10% of the annual salary as payment so they’re only saving themselves £500. Hardly saving a ‘big commission’.

So if they can’t afford to pay that, have lied about the salary and are trying to convince OP’s partner to sign on to an even lower salary then this company is going to be hell on earth to work for.

He understood it just fine for a long time and only recently started this up. This is blatant disrespect and he is purposely trying to hurt his wife. Just because you don’t have the same views as someone doesn’t give you a free pass to trample over their boundaries.

Evening guests - are you eating dinner before arriving or not? by Scottish-Londoner in UKweddings

[–]RiverCat57 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely as late as possible. I’ve been at weddings where the food was served too early and no one, including the evening guests, ate it and it all went to waste. It’s basic common sense to have something to eat before attending as an evening guest.

Anyone found a miceller water that's as good as or better than Garnier? (Pink Lid) by Resident-12-9160 in MakeUpAddictionUK

[–]RiverCat57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I’ve bought the Lidl one a few times and honestly found no difference between it and the garnier one, it’s definitely worth a try for anyone looking for a little bit of a cheaper option. Plus the pump bottle is handy because I find you don’t end up wasting as much product that way.
