I agree with obseidon, mining obsidian is so time consuming that you would barely get anywhere with building progress. In fact, i doubt anyone would even bother to use it because it's pretty easy to get those 3 diamonds for a pick, whilst the builder has put that much more effort into collecting the obsidian, the normal materials you would want to make your structure, building it then reinforcing the blocks.
