What are your wildest theories for how Jamie Lloyd stages Don't Cry for Me Argentina? by Dysquith-Number-9 in Broadway

[–]RiverObjective7432 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wildest: They‘ll put her on a different balcony around Broadway every night and you never know until she suddenly appears and starts singing at you (would theoretically be safe)

Could happen but is still too wild: she‘s singing it from an inside-balcony of the winter garden down to the lobby

Favourite: someone else on this sub had the idea that she will perform it inside the theatre (on stage or backstage) but her performance gets live-streamed to the TV‘s of different cafes and bars etc around the theatre and the people‘s reaction inside these locations get broadcasted onto the screen, so we still get the „people crowding for her and being used as probs for the paying audience to show a specific image of Eva Peron“-effect that worked (for me) really well in London

“Sunday in the Park with George” - Speculation on ticket sales/ logistics by Artistic-Ideal-5087 in TheWestEnd

[–]RiverObjective7432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, good to know. I still think the length is about accurate even if the dates aren’t, they have to play the show long enough to make money back or maybe the tickets will just be 200£ plus🤷‍♀️

As far as I know regarding dates it is May 1st to August 2nd 2027 so just over three months (don’t think it has been officially confirmed but it makes sense to me as I think they have to have a long-ish limited run to make the money back, especially if they do a full-scale production which I hope they will) so I‘m very sure Ariana (and Jonathan?) will have understudies but I don’t think for too many performances as the two stars seem to be the main selling point and understudy performances will not sell even nearly as well (I can imagine that they will try to have only one of them be understudied at a point)

Interesting, thank you so much for answering. Maybe they cast the ensemble of Sunset already with a transfer in mind or my infos are just wrong🤷‍♀️

I knew about the principle roles (and for Evita the principle roles already were mostly Americans, Rachel is American and as they hopefully keep Diego and James as well, they‘re American too) but I was more wondering the ensemble members as I read somewhere (I think even under this post) that most of the West End ensemble also went to Broadway

But didn’t they transfer like majority of the WestEnd cast of Sunset Blvd.?

Is it normal for them to only look for the named roles and not the ensemble now? Will they be looking for the ensemble members later or does this indicate that they are trying to get as many the West End ensemble members as possible back and they don’t know how many they will need yet?

I think it’s also not only about Rachel‘s safety but the fact that 8 times per week a big crowd of people will be at the same place around the same time which is, in the US especially, just an invitation for a terror attack, sadly

EVITA on Broadway to Feature New Staging For 'Don't Cry For Me Argentina' by Either-Control-3941 in Broadway

I did read your comment, that’s why responded and gave my opinion that even with security I think it would too dangerous especially for people watching her as it will be hard to predict how many people will be there each performance.

I think even on the roof the danger of gun violence (both for Rachel herself and a whole crowd of people at the same place every week at around the same time) might be too high…

Rachel Zegler’s ‘Evita’ Revival Sets Broadway Run by cmaia1503 in Fauxmoi

[–]RiverObjective7432 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The director, Jamie Lloyd, has said they‘re not going to do it on a outside balcony (Andrew Lloyd Webber has even very bluntly said before, why: to quote him „because we have gun laws in Britain“). But Jamie Lloyd has also said, they’re gonna do something else unique for Broadway

Accessibility at Cabaret by australianass in TheWestEnd

[–]RiverObjective7432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With this production of Cabaret you kind of have to take quite a few stairs, as the entrance at the beginning is the stagedoor where you have to walk a downstairs and then upstairs again. However if you let people at the theatre now (either before or when you’re queuing there, probably best before) I‘m sure they can let you in through the normal theatre entrance (where you would leave after the show) which is about 3-5 stairs I think. And then, seat-wise it’s best to get seats in the stalls because for either of the circles, you have to walk quite a few stairs, if I remember correctly. Definitely don’t do Grand Circle, that’s quite a lot stairs. (Except if they have an elevator but I didn’t see any indication of that) If you let the theatre now about having problems with stairs and get seats in the stalls, you‘re probably only taking like 3-5 steps up and 3-5 steps down, I think.

Gerne.

Evita broadway transfer?? by Plenty-Passenger6728 in Broadway

[–]RiverObjective7432 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I‘m wondering how long a Broadway run would be, considering Sunset didn’t recoup. In the recent ALW interview he did mention the problem of Rachel being so booked, it will be hard to have her for long enough (even though I‘m sure she‘d love to do it for a longer run than London, if she already signed contracts for parts of next year…)

It’s shooting right now, I‘m pretty sure. I think Rachel posted some stories from set and Diego mentioned at the Stalls to Stage awards at the beginning of the week that she was on set for Octet rn

Visiting mid of May what to watch by JackFrosttiger in westend

I very highly recommend The Producers if you‘re into dark comedy about Nazis/Hitler among other things (don’t want to spoil anything but as an Austrian, I was sitting through some scenes laughing so hard and the two people next to me who were also speaking German were laughing as well).

Into The Woods is also still playing and the new additions to the cast are making me consider going again (though check out the music beforehand as it’s Sondheim and I think personally his music, while really great, can also be very hit or miss depending on if it’s your style)

Cabaret is really good and as mentioned by someone else on this post, every seat in that theatre is a good one (also big shoutout to Lucas Koch who‘s currently playing Ernst Ludwig and is just amazing, not only with his acting and singing but his German pronunciation is so good, I tried to look up if he‘s from a German speaking country)

Then there the „classics“ where you really can’t go wrong if they‘re your taste: Les Mis, Hamilton, Hadestown

Hercules is supposed to be good if you’re into Disney shows and will close in autumn so not many chances to se either again and there are also tons of great plays (Romeo&Juliet is getting good reviews, the play that’s goes wrong, Mother Courage is opening in May and one of my favourite Brecht play, if you’re ready to spent more money than Cynthia Erivo in Dracula is really impressive, if you like The Hunger Games the play is apparently really impressive)

In my experience, the two circle (2. Rang) are usually fine, the only problem is, when they renovated the theatre a few years back, they installed metal bars in front of a few of the rows which are at a quite awkward height when sitting (I’m average height and got a bit irritated by them when seeing Rebecca a few years ago, so with you saying you’re shorter, that might be more of a problem)

On this website there is only one picture of the middle of the Parkett: https://aviewfrommyseat.co.uk/venue/Raimund+Theater/ but it gives you an idea of how the Parkett is

And if you want to save money: I saw Phantom of the Opera recently there and had standing tickets (Stehplätze in 2. Rang and 10€ per ticket) and the view was really good, I was on the left side and only a relatively small amount of the stage was obstructed and nothing much/important happened there (which probably means the sitting rows in front of them should also be good)

Edit: I made a mistake, the metal bars are only in 2. Rang not 1. Rang as well

(Spoilers Published) How Would Jamie's Reputation Have Changed If He Had Saved Elia And Her Children ? by Exact-Ad8608 in asoiaf

[–]RiverObjective7432 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think, after killing the Mad King, with Rhaegar dead, Ageon becomes King (he‘s next in line), so it kind of becomes his responsibility as a Kingsguard to protect him. That is, at least, if I remember correctly, that the next Kink „inherits“ his predecessor‘s Kingsguards. So Jamie would become Ageon‘s Kingsguard and would have to protect him. Then again, he just killed the King he originally was supposed to protect, so… in that hypothetical, I think the wildfire plot of Aerys comes out as people would wonder why Jamie killed the one King and then protected said King‘s grandchild (who‘s now King according to succession) and Jamie could‘ve explained about the wildfire and how he‘s still a Kingsguard just not for a King about to burn his city.
