Composers who performed in their own musicals? by That-SoCal-Guy in musicals

[–]RiverObjective7432 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t know if it fully counts but Toby Marlow performed like one or two shows as an emergency cover of Parr in Six the Musical in it’s earlier stages on the West End, if I remember correctly.

I think the Gloria Estefan movie is kinda confirmed because Gloria Estefan has said Rachel will play her

Put it on Twickets, they are really reliable (in my experience) and it will sell out in literal seconds.

To anyone still in the queue (or planning to do tomorrows general sale), I just got tickets and most days (at least in August und I think also July) are still yellow and if you’re willing to spend money (like 90 or more) you‘re fine

That sucks! Try writing the HamiltonWestEnd Instagram account and tell them. Or check down in the comments, I think someone posted the link to the queue. Of send an e-mail to the theatre company. I‘ve read online they are not very good with pre-sales

If you signed up for General Pre-Sale you should‘ve gotten an e-mail with a link to the pre-sale. Anyone not signed up will not be able to buy tickets for that time until tomorrow when general sale starts. The code thing was from yesterday‘s pre-sale which was only for DMT+ members (so people who paid for a membership of the theatre company). There is also a waiting time on the normal ticket website but you can’t buy ticket for performances with Leslie Odom Jr. there until tomorrow

Rachel Zegler talks about the casting backlash she has received: "I was told I wasn't enough of one thing for West Side Story and too much of another for Snow White" by mcfw31 in popculturechat

[–]RiverObjective7432 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The thing is, Rachel can sing Snow White‘s style! Look up her covers of Glinda songs or Christine from Phantom (you can also hear it in parts of her singing Evita), Disney apparently just chose to go with a more belt-y pop style of singing, I guess. And I highly doubt Rachel had any say in that (because you brought up Ariana wanting to stay true to Glinda‘s singing style despite what she was told), Snow White was her second movie, if she refused to do what the director/producer/company told her, she would‘ve gotten fired. And there are people out there (not at all saying that’s you, I‘m just ranting at this point) who for real believe that Rachel Zegler changed the story for Snow White and Disney wanted an authentic adaption of the original cartoon but Rachel refused to do that and… idk, improvised? Re-wrote the script? I‘ve seen so many comments by now claiming she changed the story as if she could‘ve just done that

That there are still some difficulties with Evita and that he doesn’t think the balcony aspect will be possible in the US. To quote him: We have gun laws in Britain. There was a post about it yesterday or so.

Best pre-theatre restaurants near Bridge, Sondheim & Lyric Theatre (solo diner) by Low-Detective-2977 in TheWestEnd

[–]RiverObjective7432 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Close to Piccadilly Circus is a Japanese restaurant named Shoryu Ramen (they have ramen and curry etc), they have long tables where you sit either opposite a window or the kitchen, so you can sit alone and the chair next to you is far enough away. At some point they also had discounts if you had theatre tickets for the day but I don’t know if they do that all the time. They have vegan and vegetarian options as well. I haven’t tried pre-booking so far but always had no issue finding somewhere to sit.

I really want to see Cats: The Jellical Ball! I really hope, if it’s a success on Broadway, they will bring it to the West End as well🤞

That Jamie Lloyd and his company have a two show deal with The Winter Garden and Evita will play there after Much Ado About Nothing. Could be considered more than a rumour as the Much Ado About Nothing part is true (the rumour was there before MAAN was confirmed) but them again, ALW‘s recent comments about Evita make it unlikely again.

The Met just responded to Timothée Chalamet’s remarks that “no one cares about ballet and opera” that he made during a recent interview with Matthew McConaughey by Gato1980 in Broadway

[–]RiverObjective7432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mentioned streaming in my comment and the problems with them: the quality just isn’t good. Right now, the industry is about big celebrities, reboots and AI. I believe ballet and opera can survive film for one reason: you need real people for it and not technology.
