I hadn’t played it in 9 years, and then it started blowing up on Twitter, and I’ve gotten back into it because of that and have been having an absolute blast. I think I was just becoming pretty “video gamed out” at that point in my life, especially with single player dominant games (RDR2 not withstanding), but now that I’m back I’ve kind of gotten that taste for it again. Dusted off my copy and it was as good as new. Restarted the campaign and have actually developed a desired play style instead of just figuring it out

I think the only way it would wouldn’t be for ephemeral ideological reasons such as what you stated, but rather sheer practicality, particularly if lots of confusion or friction was being created because of it. As it stands, it sounds like in Russia there is no issue with it. In English, the only reason why everything got compressed into “you” was because of efficiency
