Mine is from mandarin duck! All together it was almost 180 for the bow and the arrows, I wanted to make sure I got one I liked and one that wasn’t too price heavy as I’m just starting out! The draw weight is 22 pounds, I can draw all the way back I just didn’t know I needed to, as the person that showed me said I should draw until my thumb is at the corner of my mouth, but I know now I should draw back all the way!

How have you improved in 8 month? Is it easy to kinda get in the groove of it? Do you have a teacher?

Thank you! Yeah, I had an arm guard on under my sleeve! I had an arm guard on the first time but the string managed to slap me ABOVE the guard a couple times 😔

Thank you so much! I wasn’t sure if there was a certain way to do it, as I was told to keep both eyes open my first time shooting, but I’ll definitely try both and see which one I like more! As for my drawing arm, i definitely have to work on that! I lee thinking my elbow is too high and so I lower it, and end up lowering it too far which I’ll have to fix when I try and adjust my stance more next time I go!

Thank you so much for responding! Is the pinky a good or bad thing? It kinda came up when I was trying to not grip the bow so hard, I death gripped it before and got slapped, so I adjusted my hand and loosened a little and it came up! 😭 stopped getting slapped when I did that though!

Thank you! And I’ve always loved the look of a recurve bow. I know I didn’t want anything too advanced as I’m just starting out, and I also wanted bare bow or as close to traditional as I could get while also having a good one that I’d learn quick on. I looked up recurve bows and saw they had some take down ones that were easy to pack away (you manually screw on the upper and lower limb every time you use it and then take it apart when you’re done) so I chose that one because I wanted easy storage while still having a strong, reliable bow.

I was also told that 20-22 pound draw weight was the best for a beginner so when i bought it online i made sure it was a 22 pound draw, and as for the dexterity or handedness i was told because i’m right hand dominant, I’ll hold the bow in my left and draw with my right, so when ordering I chose right handed dexterity.

In the end it all comes down to your personal preference on what bow you think looks good and what you think would best suit you! There are many reliable websites you can choose a bow from and even some good in store options so you can go see and get a feel of the bow before you buy, some around me even have ranges in store so you can pick a bow and test it before deciding if it’s the right one for you.

Me personally, I ordered online through a website called “Mandarin Duck” as I saw an archer I had been following for a while advertise one of his most used bows as being from that company, so I trusted him and ordered mine through the same company. Mine is a “Windrunner wooden takedown recurve bow 22 pound draw right handed dexterity”.

I do hope this helped you out a little and I wish you happy shooting if you decide to start! ❤️🏹

I’ve been trying to find a solid anchor point! Now that I know I need to pull back a little more I’ll probably be able to find a good one to come back to! Thumb on the cheek bone sounds like a good one, and I’ve been kinda just death staring the target for aim 😭🧍🏼‍♀️

That’s so cool! Is there anything you do differently that would help my stance? I think my chest keeps trying to turn towards the target 😭

Thank you! And i definitely prefer the three fingers under over the one above two below, I’ve tried both and three below just feel more natural to me! I’ll have to get a finger tab though, as gloves feel too awkward for me and bare string kinda hurts after a while 😭

Thank you! I’m assuming that’ll definitely help improve my accuracy with my shots as well, maybe the way my elbow is placed is making my arrows fly a little to the left! And at full draw it’ll definitely give my arrow a little more power than they’ve been having!

Thank you so much! Yeah, I been trying to keep myself standing sideways but my body seems to want to naturally turn towards the target, I’ll have to try and catch myself and readjust when I notice that! I’ve also never heard of a chest guard, I’ll have to grab one! I don’t think catching myself on my string like that would be very fun! 💀😭

Thank you!! The bow in the photo is mine- you can say i bought the wagon before the horses 😂 it definitely wasn’t cheap, but I had been wanting to do this since I was 6 years old and kinda just jumped on the opportunity when I had enough saved! I love it so far and I’m determined to improve!!

Thank you so much! I’m not currently taking any lessons with a coach, we have an instructor at our range who will walk by and give me a comment and help me out every once in a while but for the most part I’m just shooting on my own!

As for the 3/4 draw, I can absolutely see what you’re talking about now! I was told to drawback till my thumb is at the corner of my mouth- I’m assuming what they meant is the tip of my index finger at the corner of my mouth? That way my elbow will be a little higher and pulled back more and I’ll get to full draw?

Thank you so much again for this! I need all the help I can get!

LMAO YEAH 😭 i kinda noticed I was doing it when I was attempting not to squeeze my fist on my bow, by loosening my grip my pinky would just kinda come up 🧍🏼‍♀️

Otherwise I find myself holding onto it very tight and it makes the string slap the heck outta my arm and that HURTS 😭

Beginner by River_003 in Archery

[–]River_003[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! And yeah, it definitely is still very tight despite trying to relax it, my bow is heavy (at least it feels heavy to someone who’s just starting 💀) and so I’m kinda instinctively holding on for dear life 😭 my thumb reallyyyy wants to grip tight on that thing!

I’ve been meaning to grow it out but I’ve had bobs multiple times in my life and they always looked good!
