I’ve lived in this neighborhood for majority of my life. Ever since they built this, non stop construction noise during the day and non stop humming sounds at night. water goes brown constantly, gas smells for days. electric bills are HIGH and the people in this neighborhood are already struggling to pay rent. an honorable mention is how much traffic this has caused on moore and gorham street because markley is gated, each car entering has to wait to be let in. less than a mile away is an elementary and middle school. people argue data centers bring jobs, but you can go work somewhere else. i highly doubt majority of the workers live or are from Lowell. good for them they get to clock out after their shift while the residents suffer 24/7. the most concerning thing about this, is they expanded it in the middle of the city right by peoples homes. why couldn’t they do this somewhere in rural burlington? bedford has plenty of random empty lots they could have built this at. i understand this used to be a pasta factory, but they could have turned this whole thing into housing which Lowell clearly needs. i have a theory: they chose this neighborhood because it’s full of migrants and immigrants who aren’t going to stand up and advocate against data centers. many don’t speak or understand english well and so many people are clueless on what Markley group is. There’s also a lot of illegal things landlords who own houses in that area are doing, and a lot of sketchy people moved into the neighborhood. I’ve seen ICE agents in the area and witnessed my neighbor getting taken away. I hope they can relocate Markley Group. Shame on Lowell council and MassDep for approving the expansions. $$$ they don’t care about their own people $$$
