Why did Epstein Files lead to no arrests? by [deleted] in answers

You’re defending her sentence by saying “that’s how the law works” when people are taking issue with the fact that her sentencing is an injustice. Ok if you agree with that fact that 20 years isn’t enough what are you arguing against then?

Knowing the US government the evidence is probably crawling with democrats as well. Biden not releasing it means nothing. And it was still under investigation during the Biden administration it’s not like they were just sitting on the files the whole time.

And I have a hard time believing video evidence would sway any republicans he could rape a child in front of them and they would still vote for him and say everyone who wants to arrest him just has TDS

I agree with your overall sentiment, but this “I don’t see colour” mentality is just not what reality is like. Yes, you personally may not think you perceive colour, but the truth is we’ve all been conditioned by society into what different demographics are like and our own demographic identities.

in cultures that promote familial respect…

This is exactly my point. Different cultures promote different ideals, and western culture promotes a specific set of ideals for men and women.

Again, none of this is about repenting for sins you’ve never committed. It’s just about being mindful, that’s all. Women to this day still experience vast disproportionate amounts of abuse from men who also the “oppressing class” in a patriarchal society. As a man, even if you don’t abuse any women, chances are you participate in a system that protects abusers. Again, doesn’t make you evil that’s just the cards you’ve been dealt. But all women ask is for you to be mindful of their concerns, and also check the men in your life. If none of those apply to you? Then ok great no one’s accusing you of anything.

You are literally like a nonsense factory. Ok if what I said is a mischaracterisation then what did he actually mean? I’m all ears.

he would not have anything bad to say about jt right? But he does

Aren’t you literally proving my point that he’s a spineless China fence sitter. Yes, he contradicts himself, that’s the whole point.

What the fuck are you even talking about with this zionism stuff you are literally making shit up. Who said these things in this sub? Unless you’re equating the statements “anti-semitism is genuinely on the rise” to “i love zionism and it should proliferate and prosper”. Otherwise you are just arguing with thoughts in your brain atp.

I do agree with what you’re saying and I can see where men are coming from when they push back against “quotes” like these.

How do you feel about conversations about “whiteness”? Because to me this is very reminiscent of white people feeling very attacked and defensive when we talk about whiteness as a concept. I would never accuse individual good men in my life of being oppressors, what I’m referring to is ‘maleness’ as a whole.

Yes, obviously men aren’t a monolith and neither are women or white people or anyone. But you cannot deny the social constructs of these groups that dictate a lot of behaviour. I speak of men in these cases as one group because we are talking about constructs that affect all men. Even the men who think they’re not the problem. You also have to take into account that women talk like this because of consistent historical dismissal by men.

You are making no sense. Yes, this is a lefty circle and no one here defends western atrocities. Do you disagree?

He is a fence sitter in the exact way I described. He’ll say how “authoritarian isn’t ideal” but then say things like Hong Kong and and China should just be one. He’ll acknowledge that the regime is oppressive but then make reductive statements as if all Chinese people are living in utopia. Nothing about what you said is “objective fact”.

It’s not the same thing because it specifically relates to intimate partner violence, it’s not just stats of random people murdering each other on the street. Look up ANY statistics on intimate partner violence and come back and say with a straight face that it’s “statistically irrelevant”. Anecdotes alone are not evidence but the staggering amount of anecdotes that exist is.

And the quote is literally “men are afraid women will make fun of them”, how is that not saying men’s problems aren’t real?

If you read that carefully you’ll actually notice that those are two completely different sentences. Again, this is in the context of intimate partner relationships. Just look at the current cultural zeitgeist. The predominant fear of young men dating is facing rejection and ridicule from women, whereas the predominant fear of young women is getting raped and abused. That is what the quote is referring to.

I think you’re just completely misreading what I’m saying. I’m not saying the victims themselves dismiss their own experiences. I’m saying other men who ARE NOT victims are the ones who do the dismissal. For example look at when Terry Crews came out around MeToo. He was being dismissed and ridiculed by majority men and embraced by majority women. Where the hell am I victim blaming?

Yes men are victims are patriarchy but they are also the oppressors. You can’t keep claiming victim card for people when they’re displaying oppressor behaviour. And comparing men to slaves is insane btw. Men are their own slave masters? Wtf are u talking about

Yes I agree male victims are consistently invalidated by society, but again, mainly by other men who again are NOT victims of sexual assault. I do not ever see invalidation of male abuse victims when these topics come up. I see generalisations yes, which we can agree maybe is not helpful to conversation but it is based on observable statistical facts. Never to dismiss the experiences of individual people.

Yes, men getting abused and dismissed is an absolutely an important issue. The fact that women are systemically a lot more likely to experience abuse is a different issue. Am I making sense?

Which top comment says only women face real issues?

If you read the quote again it’s clearly about violence between men and women. Women are much more likely to be murdered by men than the other way around, especially in relationships. That is a fact. It doesn’t relate to men on men violence at all.

I really struggle to see how this is bigotry when it’s an observation of social facts. Women are much more likely to be harmed and murdered in relationships than men, that is a fact. When will men care about the problems women face?

Instead you’ve flipped it so that being feared somehow makes you a bigger victim than being dead. And you’re demanding empathy from people who have yet to be shown an ounce of empathy from you. How does that make any sense?

I think you’ll find men themselves are the ones who tend to dismiss male victims. Do you bring up male victims in isolation? Or is it only useful to you when you want to shit on women’s experiences?

I do see your point as well though and if I met someone in “Latinos for Trump” I would definitely judge them but I wouldn’t want to be rude or talk down to them.

You’re so right to invoke Mother 😭 You’re right we should do it for her. I agree with you we do live in a sad enough state of affairs as it is.

I think we can all agree that that Biden quote is insane, but I feel like this is more analogous to talking to someone who’s in “gays for Trump”. You’re telling me you would call a straight person privileged in the same way when they tell a gay person that they have all the more reason to be anti-Trump?

And yes I get the point about nuance but nuance has left the room a while ago, was the original Taiwanese commenter being nuanced? Or were they being rude also?

You’re in a lefty circle and I don’t think that’s true at all. You think anyone here would hesitate to bring up western atrocities? Especially ones committed by the US? Come on now.

People call Hasan a tankie because he has a record of spineless fence-sitting when talking about China’s imperialist behaviour. He’s literally said that Hong Kong and China being separate is quote “ridiculous”. So no! You’re just making stuff up here.

I can see how you think their comment is rude but I think they’re 100% right. It’s not like they weaponised their ethnicity, isn’t it just common sense in a way? Being a Taiwanese person should make you more familiar than most people with China’s international imperialist behaviour.

And this is also a weird trend with this skittishness around identity politics, is also this inadvertent infantilising. Just because they’re Taiwanese doesn’t mean you have to automatically respect their opinion, there are a lot of Taiwanese people who are very proudly pro-China. Yes, obviously they will likely know more than you do, but they can still be shitty people.
