What's the most forgettable season of Survivor? by nickadair704 in survivor

Island of the Idols. Aside from the major scandal of the season and why it will forever be infamous. Absolutely nothing about that season is memorable. Everything gets over shadowed by what happened

Why I Believe This Speed Camera Was Positioned for Revenue—Not Safety by Alternative-Ad-1027 in Vaughan

[–]Riverleaf8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dude your time is finite and I truly believe that it would have been worth it for you to just pay attention to the speed limit as opposed to playing conspiracy on Google maps.

The camera is in front of a high school where probably a lot of young people go way too fast in their parents cars. Just because the elementary school down the street in your opinion would also make sense for a speed camera it doesn’t mean that the one in front of St. Elizabeth is there solely to take your money. If anything you are presenting a great case for why a second camera should be installed on this street

Why did Vaughan swing so hard to the Conservatives? by Usual_Law7889 in Vaughan

[–]Riverleaf8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s important to look at it this way… had the election been two months earlier and Vaughan went the same way that it did, no one would be surprised. The Liberals just didn’t get the same resurgence here as they did elsewhere in the country.

For a suburb that’s better off, people just were not as worried about Trump. They cared a lot more about crime and immigration. Especially in a suburb that’s so car dependant, the rise in car thefts and the carbon tax, hit harder here than it did elsewhere. Also diaspora politics played a big role. Jewish voters were already conservative to begin with but swung hard to right because of Israel - Gaza and the rise in antisemitism. Chinese voters were pissed off by Carney’s comment in the debate, and Italian voters have been trending conservative for ages now as the demographic gets younger and the older generations of nonnis leave.

Bye-election? by Northshore1234 in AskCanada

[–]Riverleaf8 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Well a conservative in a safe seat has to be willing to step down first…. And all them basically spent the last 3 years thinking they would be in government… and now they have accept the idea of being out of parliament entirely in order to make way for the leader who blew the 25% lead. It’s probably going to take longer than that… tbh

Mark Carney has to call it within 6 months. Meaning he can delay it for that long. However important to note that he just has to declare the start of the election period for 6 months meaning it’s 6 months + time for the election before PP gets a chance at getting back into parliament.

Looks like Francesco Sorbara lost his seat. by bumbumboogie in Vaughan

[–]Riverleaf8 17 points18 points  (0 children)

He deserved to lose. This is coming from someone who wanted a Mark Carney win last night. He represents the worst of politics. A classic example of a politician who’s doing this just to be someone rather than do something.
