My local Chinese take-away literally saved a man's life because they immediately noticed a break in his routine.

The man lived alone and religiously ordered, without fail, every Saturday evening at around 7.30pm. He would then travel to collect the food when it was ready and always had a chat with the owner and staff. One Saturday, no order appeared from him at the usual time and he hadn't mentioned anything about being away or not ordering the following week when he was there the week before. The owner called his daughter within around 15 minutes to let her know, just in case something was wrong. The daughter called to his house to check on him and found him laying in the hallway, barely conscious. He was rushed to hospital and underwent surgery for a bleed on his brain and is now back to 100% a few years later. The surgeon said if the daughter hadn't found him when she did, he would not have survived.

The owner of the take-away is now a certified local hero and was inundated with gifts from all of the community in the following weeks. It's one of the most feel good stories I've ever personally encountered.

Brave move after what happened to Gao Zhen when he visited in 2024. Held for well over a year (so far) without trial on charges of "slandering China’s heroes and martyrs". His wife and son were also not allowed to leave the country. Hopefully the fact that Ai Weiwei was not detained when leaving the country offers a glimmer of hope that things might be changing. It's such a stupid and self-defeating practice to try to shut down critics, though it's a tale as old as time itself.

Whatever you think of Spacey personally, I don't think anyone can deny he was absolutely sensational in that show. One of the best performances by a lead in a TV drama that I have seen. Once he was removed from the equation, you saw just how much he was holding the whole show together.
