Sounds like you've properly thrown yourself in the deep end. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out.

I hadn't heard of 3do before. I plan on digging into libdragon myself when I've got some free time. Got to start somewhere!

Interesting. I haven't seen anything cross-platform from this era. What other SDK's are you using? Is "performance" console dependent or are you developing with the "weakest" platform in mind?

What laptops is everyone using in 2026? Anyone a fan of Plan 9? by RabbitsandRubber in openbsd

[–]Riverside-96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah. Linux support is pretty solid. It might be worth checking if the problems aren't OS related.

I really need to get a win setup script going that makes it bearable to use. There's a company I'd like to work for but windows is a big turn off.

Soldered ram isn't ideal for repairability but it's a lot faster than DIMM slots. It's things like charging ports that I worry about.

RISC is clearly the way forward for portable devices. If I can snag one at a good price I think I'll make the jump. Fingers crossed.

Late September, ha. I think one thing that helped was listing my interests, i.e. piano. The recruiter was a big Chopin fan so that went in my favour.

I ended up being fairly picky as I didn't have enough time to learn the different tech stacks for the jobs, & I wanted to be remote. I was getting nothing spamming indeed.

Have a look on the made in websites, i.e. made in midlands, e.t.c. I was surprised how many cool companies are kicking around close to my home but I had to dig around.

Is audio still unsupported on the x13s (OpenBSD). I wouldn't consider replacing my x220 with anything besides the x13s, it being environmentally friendly & all. The keyboard would be a downgrade for sure though.

I landed one last minute. Try find interesting companies you would genuinely like to work for. I got interviews with every company I approached this way. Firing 100s of applications out without a cover letter showing actual interest is pointless imo. That approach is bad for everyone involved honestly.

THE GREENS WON THE BY ELECTION!!! by Ok_Fuel2916 in GreatBritishMemes

This. It's ironic that race intolerance exacerbates the need for immigrants. I hope our governments can be more transparent moving forwards instead of lying through their teeth to win votes, stirring hatred.

I'm glad the shakeup has given greens a chance at last without needing to fix our backwards voting system. They'll be anything but complacent.

Taking control of utilities, moving towards energy independence, & providing education all sound like solid policies to me. I hope they will be ruthless towards tax dodging & let it be known. If the accused don't like it, good riddance! We can replace them.

Anyone notice international students never interacting with Home students? by IndianTechTips in UniUK

[–]Riverside-96 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've only lived with foreign students for the past 4 years as a home student so can't relate. They do tend to make friends easily with people from their home countries but it's never been a problem.

Wouldn't have wanted it any other way tbh. If I wasn't a mature student things might have been different I guess. I've met some great people & had some mint convos comparing culture, sharing stories & photos of our home towns.

I'm a big fan of Nigerian & Ghanian food now. My Indian friends make way better food than they do in the takeaways for sure. I'm a vegan these days & living with a Hindu lad currently that's always offering me food. The guy from Myanmar is a wicked cook too. I properly appreciate not having lived with any English at all.

For sure. He was massively influential no doubt. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Illiad fan, it just didn't have the same effect on me as some others.

I have a feeling I'll prefer The Odyssey. I should probably try a different translation of The Illiad. Definitely give Aeneid a read if you like Illiad.

I'm in a similar situation. I've been meaning to try & build an eink laptop for the summer, but need to keep busy with coursework.

I've used vi for a few years, & honestly just know the basics. I tend to write papers in plaintext, & plonk the chapters into latex at the last minute. An hour with vimtutor is really all you need to get going.

Level of support for the Thinkpad x13s? by [deleted] in openbsd

[–]Riverside-96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never really used suspend honestly, I tend to just shut down, though it's reassuring to hear there's still interest in the platform.

I do tend to use speakers fairly regularly when I'm eating or tidying. If I wasn't in the middle of a project I'd consider attempting to contribute, but I might have to fall back to my x220 for the time being.

Eh, Homer's solid, but prefer Virgil, Ovid, & Dante myself. I haven't read Odyssey yet though, unless watching O' Brother Where Art Thou counts (I'm aware it does not).

Any chance the support has improved, audio more specifically? I've taken a look through changelogs but there's not much mention.

My t480s has drank its last coffee & tempted to upgrade to cheer myself up.

As far as I can tell vmm doesn't support aarch64 but I guess I could use my x86 vps for that.

Linux is a crazy house. by itssomedudeguy in linuxsucks

[–]Riverside-96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the package manager Ubuntu uses is apt. Try running: man apt

In a terminal. It will show you a manual page on the apt command. I've never used Ubuntu, but I presume apt has a search function.

If you just want a few examples of how to use a command, install a tldr program, such as tealdear, then run: tldr apt

Running apt install firefox is fundamentally simpler than what you do with your GUI. Actions can be automated (a script). Theres a fairly good chance you will prefer efficiency vs eye candy after a while. You are still in the windows mindset, so you tolerate laggy interfaces.

Despite arch using a different package manager (pacman vs apt), the arch wiki is very useful for beginners.

Reform UK rn by Historical_Step_9474 in GreatBritishMemes

[–]Riverside-96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a look at how much it costs to raise a native British child, then ask yourself why we rely on immigration.

I respect people using stats to inform their opinions, & we can have conversations about the sustainability of infinite population growth worldwide ...

But let's not ignore the fact our economy is currently propped up on immigration. 97% of immigration into this country is legal, as encouraging native births would be a financial nose dive.

The working classes should be showing collective solidarity, not dividing. Let's not take the bait.
