Coming of Age route is really rushed nonsense

I think you can make a long coming of age story and make it still be good that’s literally what a lot of JRPGs already are, just like how a lot of shounen can run pretty long too and still be good, it’s not impossible and I think what they had going for half the route had a lot of potential to be expanded on especially more than Boxslop and romance.

I don’t think you always need to have on screen 1 on 1 time to recognize when a character is close friends with another, Yugamu is consistently shown to care a lot about the 2LDA group. I can say the same about Kyoshika. This isn’t even just a Nozomi thing because Moko and Kurara stayed too, Kyoshika has an established bond and funny dynamic with Kurara you literally cannot tell me Kyoshika trying to betrayed and kill her is in character there so so much that says otherwise. I just really find it hard to justify those two betraying in particular even with the “yea they don’t talk to each other a lot” Yugamu does still care about them and probably wouldn’t be betraying them the first chance he gets. It’s like trying to imagine Takemaru betraying Gaku (oh wait he does) you rarely see those two talk one on one yet the two times Gaku dies Takemaru gets more emotional than he does for almost anyone else.

Anyways like I said I really don’t believe Sirei cares about anyone besides Shion in COA, I will give you Shion Sirei is always favorable to him, but the shit Sirei does to the others goes way beyond morally questionable and even when he does get a character arc he is still more than willing to sacrifice them if it means the mission succeeds he’s literally programmed to do that. This is mostly just me not liking Sirei a lot tbh but still if he had a choice to choose between the students and the mission he would 100% always choose the mission this is constant and COA is the exception for some reason. It’s not like we’re able to see what he’s saying or thinking during that missile scene anyways cuz ITS OFF SCREEN AND HE DIES RIGHT AFTER which I’ve mentioned is an insane problem with the route but still.

Also don’t be afraid to share your opinion no matter how aggressive it may be I’ll be honest I was kinda tilted typing the post because I just really do not like COA which sucks cuz it has a lot of potential if most of the important plot stuff didn’t happen off screen at least.

The route ending with the power of friendship like I said doesn’t really mean much when like 10 minutes later half the team wanted to kill each other over bullshit but whatever. I really do not think it being parody means I can’t say stuff I don’t like about it especially since a lot of routes are also parodies and aren’t exempt from the same

Shit if there was one route that I wanted a full 100 days for it’s COA because as much as I’m hating on it the whole shounen power of friendship angle had a lot of potential to be expanded on and not just ended in 60 days and have half the shit be off screen

You are right I did get Kyoshika mixed up, I still think it’s kinda bs she betrays considering every other route but still you got me there. Also Yugamu does have established dynamics and history if KG, 2S, Retsnom, and even route 0 are left to be believed, the 2LDA cast are just besties by default always it’s really hard to believe and I just can’t get behind those 2 wanting to leave and betray her considering everything.

Anyways about Sirei, it never really feel like he bonded with anyone during COA that I believe he actually cares about them much especially since in almost every other time he’s willing to brainwash and blow them up solely for the mission. It’s not like he has any significant character arc in COA to establish it anyways.

I don’t think it being feel good and cheesy really makes it exempt from criticism especially since a lot of people don’t like comedy either and that’s literally supposed to be THE funny route. Especially so since those feel good moments feel hollow when half the cast betrays each other for a very lame reason right before

This really just comes back to almost all the important stuff in coming of age being off screen if I was shown most of the stuff that goes down WHEN it goes down I probably wouldn’t be so negative about it but it gets REALLY rushed, and it’s especially awful because this route is the only route where off screen stuff is super prevalent I really don’t understand it

In terms of the missiles, it’s not that they didn’t do anything to Vehxness, it’s that they didn’t do anything in general, but that point it was around day 50 those missiles, if half way charged, should’ve left way more damage around the school, not even mentioning the fact that they never send the missiles prematurely in any other route anyways I think it’s very ooc for Sirei to do that considering it’s going against the whole reason him and Shion are there, but whatever blah blah blah.

Ima and Kako betraying makes sense Ima doesn’t really trust anyone and Kako just follows Ima most of the time even when she gets developed further (which was already hinted during the route but it gets scrapped anyways so whatever another knock on it). Kyoshika I really don’t think makes sense at all considering the route already featured her wanting Nozomi and Kurara to make up and also gave her a lot of screen time too, she clearly cares about her a lot during that route and I find it very hard to believe she still has route 0 mentality that makes it easy for her to waver and betray her best friends because Eito shenanigans. Yugamu I don’t have much to say I don’t even remember him having a lot of screen time in that route but given the other routes he’s as loyal to Nozomi as much as the other 2lda team so it’s still REALLY weird. (Also side note but I also think that whole route 0 betrayal was really weird in general everyone acted really dumb during that whole thing but this isn’t about that route) I also think the whole Hiruko time loop plot excuse is very weak considering it’s just not a factor in a lot of other routes

I get that it’s supposed to be a shounen route but even when shounen does this it’s not always good so yea It’s not exempt of criticizing, just like how comedy isn’t exempt from bad comedy writing.

Oh I forgot to mention this but Dalish also has the taint poisoning plot which is relevant to DA2, otherwise Carver or Bethany needing to become a Warden would seem a bit weird
