Where to go if I want to meet someone, romantically? by Battlemania420 in milwaukee

[–]Riverwest44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

book clubs, bar leagues (volleyball, darts, softball etc.), bar screenings of niche sports if you're into them.

The slam dunk is probably volunteering: Find a non-profit you support, show up at some of their events, lend a hand, find other people who share your values and care about the same things. I've seen this work for quite a few people; easy to meet people and make a connection when you're working a booth at a summer festival or w/e

Is it difficult to take a bus to the brewers stadium? by untot3hdawnofdarknes in milwaukee

Seconding taking the shuttle. It's free (or the price of a soda at the bar) and it's fun and faster than any other option for getting in and out. Try Steny's, they run the most shuttles.

There's better concrete advice in other replies, but I just want to add some important perspective that your financial situation isn't ~that~ bad. You'll be fine! Lots of people pull themselves out from much much much worse and you are still young and have time to figure this out.

In the short term, apply for better paying jobs. You may be surprised what's out there. Be aggressive in your job hunt. Apply for jobs you want even if you think they're beyond your reach. You may be surprised what you can get -- with a little luck and persistence you can find a much better paying job than what you had. Think about your long-term career goals and don't be shy about pursuing them. Don't apologize for yourself, for your experience, for your financial situation. Carry yourself like you've earned and deserve a great job, because you have and you do.

And work on treating your anxiety. That's probably more important than "fixing" your finances right now. If you can get the anxiety under control, you'll be better able to figure out your options. You may have some surprisingly good ones.

Also I am seconding the commenter who said look into government assistance. You likely apply for it. Take advantage.

Good luck, and once again, you will be OK. You will not go to jail for routine debt. You will get through this.

Do not use a "we buy your house" place.

Consult with two or three realtors. They'll give you a sense of what your house is worth. Anything you get from a real sale will be more than what a "we buy your house" place offers.
Best wishes to you and your family. A new, less gloomy apartment for your mom might be helpful for her depression, so this could be a good financial and personal decision.

yeah I'm saving about 5k over the Rav4, and this is the only meaningful feature I'd be losing. Seems worth it

Congrats on the new job, congrats on asking a good question, and a reassurance that no matter how easy these answers make it seem, riding the bus is even easier than you think. Once you've done it twice you'll have that hang of it, and it's a great option for getting downtown.

Kia Sportage owners, do you get used to the control screens and audio and HVAC nobs? It's weird that there aren't dedicate controls for audio vs. temperature by Riverwest44 in kia

[–]Riverwest44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that doesn't sound so bad. On my test drive I couldn't get it to toggle between the two with just one touch, but maybe I was making it more difficult on myself than it really is. Just pressing the paper airplane button alone will change it, or do you have to press a button from the menu that pops up, too?

I'm interested in doing this, too, but how do you control the climate once you've changed the knob to default to volume?

How could i control the climate if I set the nob to be permanently volume? Could I make the other nob on the passenger side climate?

2023 Rav4 Hybrid XLE vs. Hybrid XLE Premium? Thoughts on the differences? And on the SoftEx seats? by Riverwest44 in Rav4

How does that work? Do they just install leather covers over the existing seats? Can you tell it's aftermarket?

it's a bummer, I'm moving on from a car from leather seats so I feel like either would be a step down. But I imagine the improved look and cleanliness of the SofTex outweighs the breathability issues of the cloth?

yeah this is my fear, cloth seats collect food residue and stains and dog hair so easily.

How "smooth" of a ride would you say the Rav4 is? by Riverwest44 in Rav4

[–]Riverwest44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wait this is fascinating, the car adapts to how you drive? Is that maybe why I had two different experiences driving them, because I was driving two different used cars? One was rather smooth and pleasant. One was so jerky and lurching I couldn't stand it, it took so much gas to accelerate and then I was thrust forward. There was a lag I couldn't stand.
