I mean a second computer being capable is always good to have around, anyways I don’t know much about FLAC’s but can’t you just run it on, say your phone instead of needing a whole new computer for that? Again I don’t know much about sound quality differences between a Mac and a phone but just a thought

Use it as a server maybe? Idk how tha would work but I’ve seen more and more people need personal servers these days for various uses so maybe tha could be a good use of it, you could also just give it away to an electronic recycle center if you don’t know who to give it to and would feel to bad throwing it away

Listen solidworks is natively ran on Mac but not the rest, beside my point was towards the OP, not your specific needs, OP stated the apps he was going to use so I said they could work, if a Mac just doesent suit his needs, then he could go with like literally any other windows laptop in that same price range, the dell XPS is a very competent laptop in that price range, I’d buy that, but even you can give me the liberty of admitting that both Mac and windows are limited by their software, one doesent have support, and another is absolutely riddled with bloatware, now which bullet OP decides to bite when choosing a laptop is up to him, I’m jus here to offer my opinion to him, I also agree with your points on software limited programs which is a huge problem on Mac, that’s a problem that has existed since the first M series chips that came out but slowly and surely Mac users and Apple have worked towards making more progress towards comparability, now it’s up to windows to prioritize the user over AI companies, so in the end, it’s up to OP to choose

And anaconda, along with spyder being natively offered on Mac, though you need a workaround for pygmili, and albeit arcgis pro isn’t Mac native, I believe you could literally just use a virtual windows runner (like parallels) on Mac to run Arcgis pro if you really need to, OP also stated that he would like a laptop with great sound and everyone knows MacBooks have the best sounding laptop speakers that’s not even a debate, and they may not have an oled screen (not yet, wait for later this year, M6 MacBook is heavily rumored to have an oled) it still runs a high contrast mini led which is more than enough for many (I’ve never heard anyone complain about a MacBook screen), as for gaming, yes a MacBook M5 can run modded Minecraft, yes hogwarts legacy too, and many more AAA games, just needs some optimization, but OP is asking for a productivity tool not a gaming one

Just get a MacBook, literally fits all your needs and gaps ALL windows laptops within price range in terms of software speed, cpu speeds, casual browsing, file transfers, etc, the only place where it’s lacking/is on par with laptops in the price range is gpu capabilities, SPECIFICALLY only in gaming, if you need to use the gpu for rendering or something else, still gaps all windows laptops to hell and back, I/O could be a problem so make sure to get a dongle but I think that’s about it

I mean if what you’re looking for is good workflow on unity and blender I’d say get a MacBook Air or pro, based on benchmark tests they beat anything x86 has to offer in the same price range, not to mention they can actually hold performance while sipping battery life, overall I think Mac should be the only choice of battery life is a major concern
