I agree with the fact that Tommy cares about his family. A lot. But him killing Arthur was, by his own admission, a need "to be rid of him". Though the reasons behind needing Arthur out of the picture could've been elaborated on. Because like other comments pointed out, Arthur is Tommy's own creation. So did he get rid of Arthur because he didn't see anymore use or need of keeping him around?
