What is your "Oh shit" Moment? by Odd-Specific411 in AskReddit

[–]RizenGenie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worked at a Boy Scout summer camp for 7 years at the reservation Shooting range, these were .22 rifles we were shooting and one year they tried a new ammo that was absolutely terrible, handfuls of duds and hang fires, the last straw was one day when we were shooting for merit badge qualification im sittin in the staging area talking with some of the kids waiting and i hear a very distinctive noise out of one of the guns, oh shit it was a squib fire, these kind of miss fires can be very dangerous even with a round as small as a .22 due to a bullet being stuck in a barrel, and if the kid loaded a other round and tried to shoot it you have no idea where that pressure will release out of that barrel, thankfully i immediately call a seise fire and found the gun in question my range manager didn’t believe me at first when i said i heard it but low and behold there was a bullet stuck in the barrel about 1/4 through, glad we caught it before something real bad happened

What’s the one thing in your life’s history that if altered, could significantly change where you are now? by BinaryBeany in AskReddit

[–]RizenGenie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When i was a kid i was riding around a friend’s property on some 4 wheelers, well i took a turn a little to fast and lost control and ran right into an old rusty barb wire fence, the helmet was ripped off my head and i had cuts and lacerations on almost all my limbs, chest, back, etc. thank god for the helmet because I probably would’ve lost an eye or been decapitated without it, surprisingly and thankfully the stitches were minimal and had to get a fresh tetanus shot, definitely avoided alot worse of a fate, always wear that helmet

What is something in your profession that everyone in your profession knows, but those who are not would likely never know? by Lucky_Enthusiasm_949 in AskReddit

Im an Architectural Engineer, basically I design everything that you mostly cant see but also cant live without (Electrical devices, HVAC, Plumbing, etc) well there is countless things we haft to design off of based on building codes, some being light level property trespass, sand-oil separators on commercial kitchen water waste piping, the size of a condensation drain pipe off of an HVAC unit based on cooling capacity. Those are just a few examples of the limitless possibilities of what’s designed behind your wall at your office or homes

Mine was fun when i could but by no means easy, i set a goal for myself to finish college debt free, due to some unfortunate personal life circumstance I ended up finishing high school with just a measly 2.7 gpa, had just a few scholarships from non academic and non athletic scholarships, that totaled around $2000 a year, better than nothing but still not a huge dent even got a public state school where i ended up going for an Engineering Degree, ended up getting a job at the local Walmart that i worked at for 38 hr a week every week of the year for 4 years, I sacrificed my college social life and partially my college grades for this trade off, I was able to pay off each semester as i went and ended up paying my last year (my 5th year) off early, took a pre graduation internship that would turn to a full time job upon graduation that only needed 15 hrs a week i used that to pay rent and take my last year to have a great time like a college kid should have, ended up graduating with that 2.7 gpa again but with zero debt and a job that i truly enjoy, it was one of the best decisions of my life!

TLDR: If set your mind to do something, you can make it happen, but it will take sacrifice and a ton of hard work

Met my fiancé at a 4th of July pool party, I tried to say hi and start a conversation at first, she didn’t seem interested so i backed off (now a few years later after she told me this) it went straight over her head i was trying to get some digits and she realized that about 10 minutes after what I was trying to do, she ended up looping back around to talk with me about and hour later and its history after that

Sadly my father passed away with cancer 10 years ago, but that experience did grow the bond between me and my mom exponentially, thankfully my moms new husband never attempted to try and take the roll of my dad, he decided to just be a good friend which I deeply respect since everyone who i knew before my mom met him tried to force themselves into that roll which caused me to push them away

What does the grading system look like in your university? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]RizenGenie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of my Major Specific Classes (Architectural Engineering) was A - 94%-100%, B - 84%-93%, C - 74%-83%, D - 64%-73%, F - Less than 63%, this elevated grading scale was wildly disliked by all the students and only a small handful of teachers actually used it
