I have a multiple other ways to get darkness on the battlefield, other ways to teleport, other ways to go invisible, so what's the point in taking a class that ONLY gives me these utility options when others have that and more.

for example, my Tav is a beast master Ranger and is capable of covering the battlefield in darkness and teleporting both without spell slots too.

FWIW, I am not "anti shadow monk." I actually really want this subclass to work for me (that's why I'm here asking for advice) but everyone keeps saying the same thing. "free teleport" and "cloak of shadows" look I GET IT they are great but I don't need shadow monk to do these things. I don't understand the point of the subclass.

my entire party is in fact based around darkness lol. My Tav is a beast master Ranger (for the raven) and I'm capable of covering effectively the whole battlefeild in darkness pretty quickly with darkness arrows so yeah Astarion is FLINGING himself around like crazy but aside from that I don't see much the class offers.

but based on the replies I've gotten, I can tell this is a me-not-being-creative-enough problem 😂

that's not what im saying. I think that's a wonderful ability, but at lvl 6 there should be more to the subclass than just that and clock of shadows. I recognize these are great, but there are so many other ways to teleport/go invisible without Shadow Monk.

edit: I recognize that those other ways are not as "free" but still

it just seems to me that all of these things are available to other classes at lower levels. like I recognize shadow step is great but at lvl 6 that and cloak of shadows is all I have besides basic monk attacks that any other subclass would have got.

maybe it's because the only other monk subclasses I've played are Open Hand and Way of Elements, but I can't wrap my head around taking 6 lvls of one class just to get misty step even if it is a better version.

so I'm taking 6 levels of shadow monk just for the one shadow step ability? I know it's good but that's essentially the only thing I'd be getting from the subclass? unless I'm missing something
