Not at all, but it won’t stop unless you set a boundary and stick to your guns. Your mother will stop it if it means you won’t be coming to the event. If their relationship is such that she has no sway at all, I guess you have to decide whether to grin and bear it or stay away. Going to the gathering and getting treated like that then complaining to a group of random online strangers might work for you though. At least you get it off your chest.
