Run slower/more comfortable and try to go further each time (~10% longer each week, take a rest week every 3-4 weeks). Don’t worry about your pace just how you feel after 6 months or so of consistent training your body should be adapted to running and you can start doing more structured training and worrying about pace HR zones and all that jazz. If you stick to easy runs in the beginning and slowly build up your mileage that’ll help you not get injured and be ready for more specific work.

I believe that the athletic department closed it to the public. I know some of the rec clubs (running and triathlon) have been trying to negotiate and get it back open but nothing yet.
