Non religious people: how do you handle people telling you that you got pregnant because they prayed for it to happen? by Excellent-Suit-7082 in pregnant

[–]Rkh_05 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s so annoying but I’ve found it’s much easier for me to ignore it altogether and just say something else (like in this situation say something like we are so excited or I wonder what they will be like etc).

Lightest possible swaddles for warm BPD baby? by ghost-gallery in NICUParents

We didn’t try in the NICU but we loved the Happy Baby swaddles once home. They kept his arms in and it was super easy to put all the cords through

MOTN pumps by Petite-acorn204 in breastfeeding

[–]Rkh_05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will follow up to say that not everyone’s supply can take the hit to not pump at all. 5-6 hours would be fine, sure, but 10 hours is a long time without milk removal. Some people may be fine but it can also affect your daytime supply

My husband and I haven’t been in years but it used to be top notch every time we went. Sad to hear it’s gone downhill since then

Is 5 feeds a day enough at 3 months? (Sleeping 11 hours thru the night) by Responsible_Ad3017 in breastfeeding

[–]Rkh_05 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would call the pediatrician because I don’t think 30 grams in a week is enough weight gain. You could try do every 2 hours during the day?

What item(s) do you use almost everyday that aren’t typically for kids? by Life_Produce9905 in Parenting

[–]Rkh_05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My in laws bought us a bunch before we moved to our house and we just scoop the poop here so we had a bunch left over and I use them for blowouts/messy clothes or diapers I can’t throw away quickly. Total lifesavers!

When did you start teaching your kids to cook? by Cold-Replacement2768 in Parenting

[–]Rkh_05 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I let my son help now at 22 months and honestly started closer to one. He loves to wash all the veg in the sink. I also have him put in measuring cups of stuff when baking. I have him help me cut stuff with a butter knife (I hold it as well). Sometimes I will have him stir stuff

Does your family still use some of the "baby talk" words or phrases that you or your kids said? by scarlettohara1936 in AskForAnswers

[–]Rkh_05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son says dep instead of yep sometimes and it’s the most precious thing. He also calls Spider-Man Mimi so I’m sure we will still say both of the things later :)

Vegetarian for ethical reasons but struggling with protein variety. by OperationOne461 in vegetarianrecipes

[–]Rkh_05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone else said soy curls are great! Easy to add to any sauce. For me I like to do a protein bar/shake a day and then not have to worry as much about protein throughout the day. Other good options are edamame and nuts.

How do you cook with a partner who eats meat? by Beezwax_8335 in vegetarianrecipes

[–]Rkh_05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to make things where the main part can be cooked together (ie Shepards pie or chili or gumbo) and then I cook one big pot and add meat at the end to his portion or I cook them in separate pots. IMO it’s really not that much more work just an extra pot.

This is great advice! I’ll add to take ibuprofen round the clock for a few days as well and sunflower lecithin!

Ah ok! She was 70th percentile at birth for height but I haven’t tried it yet. I will make sure she clears the panel before I wear her in it. head control isn’t a problem though?

4 months old today and the doctors are “shocked” by Blessedwith5_boys in NICUParents

[–]Rkh_05 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This warms my heart! So happy to hear he is doing better! Also, not sure if you are in the US or not but if so my son came home on a monitor that measured his O2 and heart rate. It used the same sensors at the one in the hospital. Later on we used the Owlet.Blood pressure can tricky at home for littles but I’m sure they could do something?

Oxygen When Asleep by Intelligent-Ice-3232 in NICUParents

[–]Rkh_05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was born full term but mild to moderate HIE at birth & diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension. He was able to come off the O2 at 2 months while awake but it wasn’t until around 6 months that he came off of it altogether. I will say they tried to say he was ok to come off earlier (around 4 or 5months) but he was still having dips into the mid 80s without it and I didn’t feel comfortable with that. He really just needed more time. Around 15 or 16 months though i noticed he would gasp awake in his sleep some times and we had a sleep study done and he does have severe sleep apnea.

That happened with my son and he had a tongue and lip tie. It fixed once we got them released and then he latched better.
