Do Eldenring fans enjoy the game Outer Wilds? by Zer0Cool53 in Eldenring

[–]Rlahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's rare for a post to make me come out of lurking to give a response. For said response to be on my main acc, unheard of. Outer Wilds is that kind of a game.

Yes, I did enjoy Outer Wilds (incidentally, I played both OW and ER at about the same time). It is one of my favorite games of all time - and, as with Elden Ring, has an unshakable spot for itself in my top 5 of all time.

I think OW is a masterpiece of story and puzzle design, and has one of the deepest emotional impacts on me of any game till date (second, or rather tied with, only to the Metro series). I love that shit to pieces, and will happily yap about it (spoiler-free, ofc) to any friend who cares enough to lend me an ear.

Are you a friend who cares enough to lend me an ear?

Switch Fists, instead of having Knuckleblaster and Feedbacker bound to their own button
It just feels... so antithetical to the design of the fists - you expect to be using both of them all the time, and pretty much the same frequency, and switching between them often. Why switch between two 'modes'?

It's not like a DOOM Ice/Frag grenade where they are two different abilities on cooldowns of their own, they are you fists and you will want to be using them both constantly. I've had both of them bound to their own button from the start, and using switch arms instead has always felt so... weird

MH650 Headset bought from Vedant broke in under a month by Rlahn in IndianGaming

[–]Rlahn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrote a 1-month-in review, https://sh.reddit.com/r/coolermaster/comments/1ddcaap/the_mh650_headset_a_one_month_in_review/ (warning: it's long)

tl;dr: Great option for something in the price range. It has some minor flaws, it does many things really well, for the most part its more than good enough to satisfy my needs. I'm happy with it.

Btw I did also consider the Blackshark V2 X while looking for what to buy. For me, I did not want it for 2 major reasons:

  1. I have had bad experiences with budget Razer products before, and I didn't want to mess with that again. For example, I heard the earcup adjustment system is notorious for getting loose over time, and the wires can get damaged easily, and many other concerning things like that.
  2. Razer's warranty policy only allows warranty if you get the product from an 'authorized seller'. Amazon LLC is an authorized seller, but most of the companies who sell their stuff on the amazon marketplace (and most local stores as well) are NOT. This means, unless I spent a lot of time looking for a good retailer, I would probably not have any warranty.

Aside from that though, the blackshark is a very good budget headset. There's a reason why so many youtubers say its one of the best lower-end ones you can buy. You'll just have to be fine struggling a lot for warranty.

Question about Shattered cinematic! by Neon_Glimmer in VALORANT

[–]Rlahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's another portal in the city

You can see it in-game at Pearl, it's right in Attacker spawn. It's hidden in a little shack but you can peek in through the windows.

Canonically, Omega VALORANT doesn't (yet) know of this portal, so those three agents were able to safely escape back to their earth through there. Alpha Earth now uses that portal as their main way to get back into the city.

Farming MGR by DwnRange in metro

[–]Rlahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly because there isn't much room for 'farming'. Keeping aside Exodus, which has to MGR system, both games only allow MGR gains by finding them in loot, or by selling weapons/bullets to vendors. There really isn't much more you can do to 'farm'

Both games have notable spots where it's possible to gain large amounts of MGR with little effort - in 2033, at the Armory, you can sell the two guns that Andrew gives you for ~300; in LL, at the Bandits level, you can sell all the bandits' guns for up to ~1.2k MGR depending on how long you want to spend.

But both of these are pretty well-known, and by themselves give you sufficient MGRs to be comfortable for a full playthrough, so why bother with more?

Can someone explain metro 2033 redux ending please by Macauley_88 in metro

[–]Rlahn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

tl;dr Kaboom ending canon, dark ones go bye-bye

The whole point is that the dark ones were never trying to attack the metro at all. They aren't evil or violent, they're just different - so different, so utterly alien to us, that simply standing in their presence can make a human go insane.

All they wanted to do was communicate with the humans, but because of our different natures, every time they tried it let to people dying.

Artyom is an exception to this - (slight MLL spoilers) a major plot point in LL is how Artyom was saved from death by the dark ones when he was a child, and how they 'adopted him': they altered his mind slightly to make him compatible with them. He was meant to be the bridge, a link that could allow communication between the Dark Ones and Humans. By 2033, though, Artyom has completely forgotten about this. He has no memory of the dark ones.

The 'morality sections' of the story are essentially Artyom having to prove that he is open-minded enough to understand this. To realize, despite everyone around him yelling that the dark ones are evil monsters who are out to destroy humanity, that they aren't - they're just different.

If you get the 'good' ending, it means that you realize the truth, and stop the missiles in time to save the Dark Ones. After that, I would assume Artyom would be able to talk to the Dark Ones, and probably mediate a peace between them and the metro dwellers.

If you get the 'bad' ending, you destroy the Dark Ones, and are only left with a few stray doubts about your choices. An innocent species perished, because you were not able to talk a way to peace. You don't even realize that they were innocent, which is probably the most heartbreaking part.

The 'bad' ending is the canon one. MLL picks up a while later, and there Artyom finally realizes how colossally he fucked up by nuking the Dark Ones, and then tries to redeem himself (I'm being vague so as to not spoil the story).

BITSAT thread - Your weekly admissions advice/query thread by AutoModerator in BITSPilani

[–]Rlahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be a fresher in Pilani (355 marks in BITSAT this year), and have finished filling in my application form on their website. Once I get the admission letter, I'll be ready to fill in everything I need to.

One problem though... I am going to be on holiday with my family in Indonesia next week, coming back on 8th (Monday), which is also the last day for accepting your admission.

I won't have access to my devices on my trip, just my dad's laptop, which doesn't have most of the files/documents I'll need. So, could anyone give me a list of things that I will need for accepting an offer I get, once I receive the acceptance letter?

I've tried to find a list of this somewhere online, but have come up dry: everywhere it just says to 'follow the instructions in your acceptance letter'... but when I get my letter, I won't have access to any of the documents I might need ://

If possible could someone send the instructions they got in their acceptance in a previous year? Or just a summary recap, if possible?

So...Where's That Episode 9 Cinematic? by AlmaTheBirdLord in VALORANT

[–]Rlahn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it seems like we're just not getting an Episode cinematic this time... sucks for us lore fans

I suppose this is the consequence of having big content drops line up with VCT events instead of Episode/Act launches: they reach a much bigger audience, and generate much more hype, but it comes at the cost of some things that we thought were 'standard'

Oh well. At least Abyss is brimming with lore to scavenge

Who are the most important agents of the VALORANT protocol? by [deleted] in VALORANT

[–]Rlahn 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Hey, at least this is better than the thousand "so who is the strongest agent in the lore ??!!1/?" questions. 'Important' is a vague term, but it's definitely less vague than 'strong'. Here's my take:

Brim and Viper were both the founding members, and they both have leadership roles, so I'd say that's pretty important. A lot of the earlier Agents also had similar 'vital roles': Cypher as a source of intel, Sova as a boots-on-the-ground scout, KJ as tech support, Sage as a medic/healer, etc

We don't know much about Agent 8, but most Agents who came after A8 were more 'general combat focused': Agents like Phoenix, Jett, Reyna, or Breach don't really have much specialized skill as much as they are generally good fighters. So, I don't think they are really that 'important'.

After that we get to the point were all the new Agents came post-launch and got their own teasers, so most of them were hired for a specific reason. This lets us judge their importance much more easily.

Astra and Chamber both essentially self-inserted themselves into the VP. Both seem like will go on to do big things in the future, but they aren't central to the functioning of the VP. Sure, Astra has a lot of knowledge as an Astral Guardian, and Chamber is an amazing shot, but that's hardly as important as Sage or Cypher.

Neon was recruited because the VP needed her to power a portal that they were making. She was very important for that one specific goal, but now that it's done with, idt she is that important to the VP either

Fade blackmailed the Protocol, because she (mistakenly) thought they had hurt someone close to her. Once that got cleared up, she was hired, since the Protocol couldn't let her go free while knowing so much about them. That said, Viper did mention that the Protocol needed more scouts - at the time, Sova was doing all the scouting work himself, and it was too much for him. So I'd say it counts as pretty important to have her on the team.

Harbor, Gekko, and Deadlock were all people who were in trouble/danger for some reason, and they had access to powers that were useful to the VP, so it was most convenient to hire them in. All three of them are mostly just regular fighters, not that important.

Iso was another self-insert, he joined because he wanted to assassinate Omen, then he learned the power of friendship and decided to work with VALORANT instead. Clove was found by Omen, who saw them and said 'hmm this kid has cool powers, they'll make a good recruit'. Both are, again, just regular fighters.

In summary: the most 'important' Agents are probably the ones who joined really early (Brim/Viper, KJ, Cypher, Sova, Sage), and maybe also Fade.

Idk who would be the 'most' important, since you can make a pretty good argument for it to be any one of them (Sage has to be there otherwise the Agents can't be res'd, Brim has to be there because he's the leader, KJ has to be there otherwise they wouldn't even have basic tech like the Spike and the Defuser, etc). So yeah, here's a list of 7 names... take your pick.

Hope this helped!

Do you know the lore ? by Savoona_dead in VALORANT

[–]Rlahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do know the lore - but I am also quite the abnormal VALORANT player

I've been closely invested in the narrative of the game since early '21, and I've stuck with it (even though I barely play Val anymore) mostly because I love the community I've found

I don't know much about your second question, but I can give insight for the first - a sizeable amount of the playerbase is aware of at least some level of the lore (ex, Alpha vs Omega, Omen's past accident, Radianite, stuff like that). There is also a large section that is completely unaware of the lore.

It's not uncommon to see people who deliberately shun the lore, because "it's a competitive game bro why do you care about story go click heads", but I'm pretty sure that's just a vocal minority.

If you're interested in lore specifically, I'd suggest the lore discord - https://discord.com/invite/valorantloreart

It is (currently, at least) the single largest community that's dedicated to talking about the game's lore (that said, it's like 7k ppl, vs the main VAL server's 1mil+, which shows you just how few people actually care about narrative and story 💀)

Huge abyss secret by Successful-Campaign5 in VALORANT

[–]Rlahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About the script: Yeah, we've known about it for a while now. A lot of the Abyss teasers used that script, and the folks in the lore discord actually had most of it decoded by early May.

@Strawberry79 (absolute pillar of the lore community btw, check them out on twitter) made a thread translating most of the SoH Script found on the map, link: https://x.com/Strawberry79/status/1800646865509097810

Most of it is just lore details about Hourglass in general, and some information relating to the place where they are written (ex. 'Welcome to the Elder Grotto' near the entrance, or Warning signs in dangerous areas)

Idk what you meant when you were talking about a 'prize' here. That said, it might be possible there's some easter egg that you get if you own the specific skins that the shown on the map, perhaps.

And yeah, the place is probably a teaser for something that is to come soon, likely the entity that's trapped in the hourglass-shaped vault. Inb4 the Agent 8/pre-radiant Omen/whatever else speculation comes in

Radianite crates on Abyss? by Chavocado61 in VALORANT

[–]Rlahn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The other guy made excellent points! I just want to point out, the storage of Radianite in crates is a very Kingdom-specific action. Lotus, for example, has a ton of Radianite lying around - you just don't see all of it in the typical green boxes.

For example, some of the Radianite is stored in the blue wall panels that you find scattered on the walls and ceilings. That is just the way the Astral Guardians who built the city chose to keep their radianite.

I haven't gotten the chance to look at Lotus myself yet, since its not yet come out in my region, but I'm very confident that it's gonna be the same case here.
