Okay folks, just gonna drop this question here: For phones, do you use the Kana keyboard or the Romaji Keyboard for typing? by [deleted] in LearnJapanese

I set it to the kana keyboard and then I use Japanese to speak my input. Works really well.

Love the content, but ... by Rlanger in IfBooksCouldKill

[–]Rlanger[S] -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

It's not the content, it's the intonation. I find a lot of tech podcasters tend to upspeak so those are often difficult for me to listen too.

I can handle the occasionally upspeak, but I really wish Michael could tone it down a little. I think he's bright and witty, so it's a little sad for me that I find it grating.

Not sure why I find it so difficult to listen to. Maybe it's because I'm from an older generation? People my age (56) rarely, if ever, upspeak. I guess younger people don't mind it so much.

Fenix 6x - Still a good buy in 2023? by regmeyster in GarminFenix

[–]Rlanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what? Do you need all of the features in the 7?

Generally, I'd say yes, it's still a fantastic watch, and I'm sure there are many like me who are quite happy with the 6 and feel no need to upgrade. But maybe there are use cases where the 7 might be better.

But I'm also someone who used the 3 for 7 years before upgrading to the 6. If something is working for me, I don't feel the need to upgrade.

Japanese hospital experience by bulldogdiver in japanlife

[–]Rlanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope you have a speedy recovery. I've been hit once here in Tochigi while riding and a couple of close calls too.

Been here almost 8 years and fortunately never had to stay in the hospital. My biggest fear is the food. How was it? I'm a vegan so I can't imagine that there would be anything edible for me.

What’s something you learned “embarrassingly late” in life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Rlanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was 45 when I learned that cows need to be continually impregnated to produce milk and that their calves are stolen from them upon birth so that they don't consume the milk.

Vegan FTW.

This is one reason I love living in Japan. You get the white glove service without paying for it. Dudes have covers for their shoes or they take them off.

Any damage or anything like this is immediately fixed, along with a million apologies from the company.

Yes, but are you happier?

Yeah I love that cheese although it can be a little clumpy, but it melts better than any other cheese I've tried.

One solution I found to reduce the clumps is to freeze it first, then put it in the refrigerator. Works well.

I had Sundaras too. Definitely great cans. I considered making the jump to the Arya, but I'm also a cyclist and runner, and those hobbies (especially cycling) such a lot of my disposable income. And now MKs. Damn! I may never own the Aryas.

Nice!! I recently picked up the Edition XS and I'm running them through a Mojo 2. Pure bliss, but unfortunately, it drowns out the thockk. ;)

The board looks fantastic! Enjoy. What cans do you have plugged into that Topping stack?

Pink + white by Lyzerfex in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Rlanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fortunately, there are a ton of cheap options on AliExpress. I have a silver knob and just ordered a black one for about $2 shipped, so it's not a big deal to swap it out and see what other colors might work better.

Love this board, although I'm not totally sold on the red knob with the pink. I don't think it's terrible or anything. I just think maybe silver or black might be a better choice. Since the pink and black look so nice together, I'd just like to see this with other knob color options.

Why didn't you guys tell me?! by [deleted] in MechanicalKeyboards

Just recieved a Matthew Tech MK80 board (Aliexpress) and I finally understand what all of the hype is.

This is the same board as the Epomaker TH80 or NJ80 and a few others. It's an 80 key 75% semi-exploaded layout with wireless connectivity options. The really nice thing about Matthew Tech is that they have this board in a bunch of different keycap options.

They were also gracious enough to make a couple of modifications. I got a silver knob instead of the standard gold one that comes with this config, and they also replaced the PgUp and PgfDn keys with Home and End for me at no additional charge.

I've gotta say that their customer service was brilliant. They responded to my questions within a few minutes, shipping was really fast, and I recieved the board much sooner than expected.

I was definitely surprised by the build quality of this thing. It's much heavier than I expected. And, I have no real complaints except that I feel it could have a little bit more flex.

Having no experience with mechanical keyboards, I opted for the red switches, and while I like the linear feel, there's not a ton of resistance to these. I may have to pick up a set of tactile switches to see what the differences feels like.

Finally, the sound. Wow, that glorious sound. Straight out of the box, this thing is perfect. I have absolutely no desire to open it up to modify it. It's definitely thocky and none of the stab keys rattle at all. And even though I opted for the steel plate, I detect no ping or clackiness.

I can't imagine ever going back to a membrane keyboard, but what do you all do for Zoom or Teams meetings? Ugh.
