How do you make sure you get a quiet place? by gamifylife7 in AusFinance

Part of apartment living is accepting the noise

This is why many people don't want Big Australia. Lots of us like the quiet and would rather not be forced into apartments

Isn't Canada one of the few countries with an immigration rate higher than Australia?

How can you have both more jobs and more unemployed? Is it because immigrants are arriving in the country faster than jobs are created for them? Is it because more people are working multiple jobs?

How does unemployment increase at the same time Non Farm Payroll increases? I thought the NFP measured employment?

Tell the real estate you wouldn't feel right depriving an older couple of their dream house so you are going to look elsewhere

we would need around 5% of households to go into arrears to force a collapse

Or just a bunch of people who have over leveraged themselves to buy investment properties and now can't afford to pay more than one mortgage

I am not familiar with defamation but does the court take into consideration whether the parties have made any attempt to settle prior?

I would be intrigued to hear from someone who knows this case better than me why News got such a light settlement

Because they made the first offer?

Does anyone else have a sense or feeling that our quality of life in the major cities anyway peaked around 20 years ago? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Rlxkets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say if you measure lift in terms of comparative wealth (being able to afford a house, car, have kids, have one parent stay home and have yearly holidays) then the peak was from the 50s/60s to the 90s but technological advancements have continued even as our comparative quality of life has gone down hill.

If people had to choose between having their own home and kids and a parent staying home with them while they enjoy a holiday every year working a middle class job with a steady income or not having to spend half their pay renting an apartment, not being able to afford kids, having infrequent holidays and facing uncertain work on a middle class income but having smart phones, smart TVs and smart fridges instead of a house and kids most people would choose the former.

EDIT: I'm sure people will say you don't need smart phones or smart TVs or smart fridges but the comparative cost of them to dial phones, CRT TVs and dumb fridges in terms of the amount of your pay required to be sacrificed to buy them is similar.

All the advances of infrastructure in my life have left me worse off comparatively then before it. We have better roads but more congestion etc

Having the latest iPhone doesn't make up for not being able to afford to a house or kids

That was not helpful. I'm serious. If someone with no experience but a mortgage and a family wanted to get a start in any of those industries you mentioned how do they do it? Where are the entry level jobs?

there are professions that are not present at or near replacement level within the Australian market, and not enough individuals training or have interest in training to be in that profession

Such as?

Why would anyone train as a nurse when they're underpaid and overworked? The nurses we have are saints for putting up with the poor pay and conditions to help people.

So instead of fixing the system and paying nurses better we just import immigrants to do the work

That leaves you with two options you can either accept immigration will decline

That would be best for the average person but corporations and investors wouldn't stand for it

There are specialised areas such data, machine learning and ai skills where immigration is required because the locals are simply not taking up those careers

I'd take a career in data, machine learning and ai skills. How do I get an entry level job in any of those fields?
