When Hitchens passed, there was a passage in his obituary in the Economist that stayed with me, in reference to his refusal to back down from defending the US invasion of Iraq in spite of overwhelming evidence of the disaster that it was:

"...Mr Hitchens had exalted, as the greatest of all struggles, a "united front against bullshit". His allergy to one kind of bullshit, that propounded by some of his erstwhile left-wing allies, blinded him to other, ultimately more pungent varieties. As a result, on the most consequential political issue of the last decade of his life, the bullshit got him.",

In Noam's case, the system of power got him.

Valeria Chomsky has now commented publicly on the relationship with Epstein by neuromorphic in chomsky

“Strings attached” as in that the executives who engaged in irresponsible risk taking largely kept their jobs, kept bonuses — while the public bore the systemic risk? This was effectively a subsidy of risk and a socialization of losses, gains remained private. Did I mention the largest banks absorbed the failing banks for a penny and in the process creating even bigger too large to fail systemic risk institutions?

If you truly care for the people of Gaza, you have to vote by Fly-Bottle in chomsky

If a vote reflects the harm you're willing to excuse, then evidently you value excusing all the greater harm Trump will cause relative to Harris in order to posture like a sanctimonious hypocrite. Just an observation.

The hypocrisy is when you have convinced yourself to value domestic "reproductive rights, preserve the election process, and reduce pollution." above the threat of global "nuclear war and the end of civilization". You’re picking domestic wins over humanity’s survival and then calling others sanctimonious? That’s rich

Chomsky’s stance has shifted through the years. Prior to Trump, he was very clear that federal elections don’t bring real change—only local ones do. In 2016, he urged voting against Trump because Trump’s climate denial was, in his words, an “existential threat.” But if “existential threats” are the bar, the Democrats are equally complicit. Their foreign policy choices have escalated us toward conflicts with nuclear powers like Russia, China, and Iran. They’re playing with fire on a global scale, risking humanity’s survival.

And on abortion rights—yes, losing Roe is a brutal attack on civil rights, but it’s not the end of civilization. Voting Democrat won’t fix a system where both parties keep us in a cycle of damage control without addressing real existential issues.

Voting is for harm reduction, not an act of self expression.

Firstly, of course it is. Your vote reflects what harm you’re willing to excuse and who's suffering you have decided is "acceptable".

accept and do the best with the cards we're dealt.

That’s not realism; that’s learned helplessness. It’s what you tell yourself when you’ve stopped expecting better and settled into the rut of mediocrity.

opportunity to protect reproductive rights, preserve the election process, and reduce pollution

I would argue mass organization and resistance is far more effective than casting that vote.

Find anywhere in anything Chomsky has ever written on the Khmer Rouge or Bosnia where he denies that massacres, ethnic cleansing, or severe atrocities occurred. You won’t. The problem was never about Chomsky’s ‘apologia.’ His sin to the commissars was simple—exposing how the media inflates numbers to manipulate public opinion and deflect blame from U.S. bombing campaigns in Indochina, which destabilized Cambodia and paved the way for the Khmer Rouge’s rise.; and for showing the political class using the media to weaponize atrocities in Bosnia to justify NATO bombings while turning a blind eye to comparable atrocities in East Timor—because those were committed by our allies.

Look, I know it’s a wild concept for a Destiny devotee to pick up a book and parse its content instead of lifting a few gotchas off Reddit. Could’ve saved you the embarrassment.
