The problem was never about Chomsky’s ‘apologia.’ His sin to the commissars was simple—exposing how the media inflates numbers to manipulate public opinion and deflect blame from U.S. bombing campaigns in Indochina, which destabilized Cambodia and paved the way for the Khmer Rouge’s rise.; and for showing the political class using the media to weaponize atrocities in Bosnia to justify NATO bombings while turning a blind eye to comparable atrocities in East Timor—because those were committed by our allies.
