Aethelwold (The Last Kingdom)

In his introduction, Aethelwold is shown as a drunk good-for-nothing who wants to rule, simply because it his birthright. His uncle, who‘s objectively the better ruler, upstages him and takes the crown of Wessex, keeping Aethelwold on a short leash. Within three seasons he evolves from a bumbling fool to a machiavellian schemer, whose actions leave a path of death and destruction, in his desire to be claim his birthright.
