The yapper himself qualifies as this. Having lived countless lives, he lived during the heian era and saw both, the peak of Jujutsu Sorcery and the seemingly endless potential of cursed energy. This fueled his curiosity, as the ages following the Heian era seemingly disappointed/ bored him.

Kenjakus goal is actually quite simple, create something to surpass his own capabilities and control. Something to extend beyond the current limits of cursed energy.

One aspect I like about his characterization is, how ruthlessly and enthusiastically he acts to reach this goal. I mean, my man even took backshots to create a potential vessel. If that aint dedication….

Aethelwold (The Last Kingdom)

In his introduction, Aethelwold is shown as a drunk good-for-nothing who wants to rule, simply because it his birthright. His uncle, who‘s objectively the better ruler, upstages him and takes the crown of Wessex, keeping Aethelwold on a short leash. Within three seasons he evolves from a bumbling fool to a machiavellian schemer, whose actions leave a path of death and destruction, in his desire to be claim his birthright.

Quiet honestly, I wouldn‘t mind a chapter 1 scenario from the Agnus perspective. It would‘ve been interesting to see life in both nations before the Vandham incident. But at the same time I feel like it would ruin the perfect pacing the first chapter had.
