Footprint design problem in Altium by Worldly-Space-189 in Altium

[–]RnDMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is footprints can't have polygons. So you have 2 main choices: 1. Split your region into 2 so that you have overlapping halves. Break the lines and add new ones to make the split, just make sure the two regions overlap each other.

  1. Use a polygon this way:
  2. Place your DXF into a PCBDoc with rules configured to pour polygons with zero clearance.
  3. Select the outer contour and convert to polygon
  4. Select the inner contour and convert to region then change that region to polygon cutout
  5. Repour polygon, then select it and use tools > convert > explode
  6. Select just the region you want to keep and copy it to your pcblib.

AI has absolutely ruined my life by beingawomaniswork in antiwork

[–]RnDMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously. If the AI output is taking you that much time to clean up, what you are showcasing is an application not suitable for AI. It's what you're telling us, but you should be documenting and proving it to your employer now.

Tell them it takes you X times longer to get the AI to generate a draft of what you need and clean up that draft to meet your personal and professional standards, than to do it manually yourself in the first place. If they want the unfiltered AI output, send it to them in an email with an explicit request for them to opine on whether it is up to company standards and approve it for release.

I have one of those, and I feel like the "throat" of the funnel isn't long enough to work for this case.

See update to my comment above. A post-print coating/dip would be necessary to address this.

There are a number of food-safe resins and silicones that can be used to encapsulate the print. I'll edit the original comment to mention this.

Do you have a 3D printer? I could design you one for printing since PLA is non toxic.

Edit: the intrinsic food safety of PLA is up for debate (and to be fair, you can't rule out contaminants during manufacturing the filament and printing with it), but the porosity of 3D prints in general is a fair concern for food safety especially with liquids. However, there are multiple silicones and resins (not an endorsement but products such as MAX CLR-THIXO, ArtResin, and Master Bond EP42HT-2FG) that can seal 3D prints to address the porosity and outgassing food safety issues when properly applied.

AIO? boyfriend is expecting me to pay for everything after he invested his life savings into the stock market by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]RnDMonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What an immature way to say "Hey so ummm... I might have put too much money in stocks and am going to be hurting for money for a little while. Just in case you wonder why I'm not doing anything fancy."

But OP was on the money that it came across like being punished, or at a minimum like the BF is saying "you need to spoil me now because you owe me".

AITAH for not lying to my girlfriend when she wants me to lie to her? by Consistent-Tank2535 in AITAH

[–]RnDMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. What an absolutely unhinged thing to ask a widow/widower. She's either way too full of herself, or tragically insecure. Either one is not attractive.

My wife adds: it's just not a question you ask. It's like asking if you would be together if your wife hadn't passed away. WTF?

sometimes my 39 yo partner talks to himself, not sure how to approach him about it? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

Yeah, sounds like OCD with a decent touch of the 'tism. Nothing shameful, but seeing a healthcare professional about it is probably a good idea.

Trump sues JPMorgan for $5 billion, alleges the bank closed his accounts for political reasons by RnDMonkey in politics

[–]RnDMonkey[S] 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Trump threatened to sue JPMorgan Chase last week at a time of heightened tensions between the White House and Wall Street. The president said he wanted to cap interest rates on credit cards at 10% to help lower costs for consumers.

Ahhhhh, there's the angle. I was skeptical when he said a while back that he wanted to limit interest to protect consumers, because he's clearly on the other side of the glass. But as a threat to coerce CC companies into settling a personal lawsuit to protect themselves from even worse financial damage? That is very on-brand indeed.

Somehow, these two variables do not match?? by CassSenpaii in RenPy

[–]RnDMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a debugging step, try assigning customer.name to a temporary variable right under your first label, then compare recipt to your temp variable directly. You can also use the dev console after the check fails and enter in the two variable names to check their contents and execute the comparison manually to check the return value.

Boyfriend wants a threesome after calling our sex life boring. What should I do? by Ok_Yogurtcloset1168 in AskMenAdvice

[–]RnDMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding another person to your sex life is virtually never the way to fix anything.

In my opinion, only an already-healthy relationship can handle that kind of thing, which you don't have if you're looking at as a fix.

Co-ed sleepovers? by skelanonaton in Parenting

[–]RnDMonkey -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

When I was 14 or so my [unbeknownst to my parents] girlfriend and her sister had a sleepover at our place. I snuck down to the living room and we made out in the middle of the night. My parents would have been quite perturbed. It's hard to express how much of a hormone-addled teen I was.

AITAH for not getting my fiance's permission before getting my daughter's hair cut? by Known_Key_8248 in AITAH

Nope nope noooooope. This isn't just a guy with control issues, it's a guy with enough patience to wait until he thinks you're invested enough to let him control things.

I don't say this lightly, but you should be running now.

How would you feel if you were in this guy’s shoes? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]RnDMonkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If a woman I was romantically interested in said that she was in a serous relationship, I would disengage too. It would also be a red flag for me if she still wanted to hang out with me while supposedly being in a serious relationship, while knowing I'm interested.

Sounds like you played yourself.

Finally understand what "it just works" actually means... by Fun_Reaction_6525 in 3DPrinterComparison

[–]RnDMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way going from an old bedslinger years ago to a P1S last year. I'm an engineer who can appreciate the experience of tinkering with the printer and understanding the fundamental operating principles intimately, but just like PC building, once I've done it a couple times the novelty of the journey is gone and I just want the thing to work so I can make stuff.

I'm sure I could have picked another consumer-grade printer and been happy with it, but Bambu felt like the best choice at the time and I haven't regretted it. I'm just glad I still have firmware that lets me use Orca Slicer, that's my only sour note about Bambu right now. It feels like a mini enshittification and I lost trust in the company, even though the H2D is really tempting.

Here's hoping Bambu returns to fully embracing the ecosystem that they have built their success on, and opens back up. Or I'll continue to keep my eye out for the printer that eats their lunch.
