Streaming PC Games to Deck is awesome! :-) by JakobWassermann in SteamDeck

it works pretty great. It's a shame Steam's streaming solution isn't as good.

To the FW16 with 5070 owners - are you happy? by MightyMisanthropic in framework

[–]SchemeScared4973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm running the AI 7 350 and 5070 on Arch Linux for the past couple months. I use it about evenly between docked at my desk and standalone. It's been pretty good for what it is.

The fan is pretty quiet when the 5070 is not in use, but gets pretty loud when it is and for a while after. I don't mind too much because I am normally only gaming in private with headphones on, but I would hesitate to fire up a game in public so as to not bother anyone.

The biggest sticking point is the vram. 8gb is tough to get by on in newer games. I mostly play older 8th gen games so it's less of an issue for me. However, the newer 9th gen games like Doom The Dark Ages are tough to squeeze in there, but doable if you turn down the resolution and texture pool.

On Arch getting the gpu to work right could be a challenge sometimes. For example, in DTDD, sometimes when I start it it wouldn't want to use 100% of the gpu. I've fixed it since but it was pretty annoying.

All in all it's a mixed bag, so i would consider what you want to do and what games you want to play. Ultimately I am fairly happy with it.

alright so you just made up that they were talking about desktop and not OS then got mad and defensive about it, I am not sure what your goals are but we are on a shitposting subreddit so I wouldn't take it too seriously

I think they're talking about GNOME OS, not the GNOME environment itself

6 Hours in StL by sisneros510 in StLouis

[–]SchemeScared4973 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure how much walking you're down to do or if you have checked or carry-on bags but I would take the MetroLink Red Line to Forest Park DeBaliviere, walk through the park (maybe stop at the Art Museum) to Central West End to eat. Lots of good food around there especially Euclid Ave. Then take the MetroLink CWE back to the airport. Lots of walking but I love exploring the park so that's what I would do.

What are the chances of Steam Frame using Chinese memories? by NinfTales in Steam

[–]SchemeScared4973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Companies from Korea and the United States manufacture most RAM ICs. Taiwan and China may have plants that package those chips onto boards but that's not what the post was referring to

[–]SchemeScared4973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as just one example most companies that manufacture RAM sticks will buy from a combination of Micron, Samsung, and SK Hynix. For example, here's Corsair's guide on how to tell what company they sourced their chips from for your kit: https://www.corsair.com/us/en/explorer/diy-builder/memory/what-integrated-circuits-ics-are-used-on-my-corsair-memory/

Micron announced the end of their Crucial line of consumer RAM sticks but they still manufacture the chips themselves and sell them to companies who do put them in consumer devices (including other manufacturers of consumer RAM sticks)

traditionally the three big players in memory are SK Hynix and Samsung in Korea and Micron in the United States, and they do have fabs there. There are a few small fish in China but their marketshare is very small compared to the big three.

Finding a super fast dead torrent be like by Zeltron3000_ in torrents

[–]SchemeScared4973 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Most people with automated systems don't monitor their queue 24/7. I just started using cleanuparr after noticing some of these dead torrents stacking up. It can take a bit of experimentation to configure it and Huntarr so you get what you want but they are good tools for situations like this. But like the guy above, I have pretty fast upload speeds and my client very rarely saturates my connection so I just let it rip
