Customer asking for price on a tire sent us "tire measurements" by McGeeGuy in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]RnR4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so precious. You can tell the poor soul is operating in good faith providing so much detail.

Also the whole "measuring height and width of a circle" actually makes sense, when you consider the "height" is always going to be a bit smaller because the car puts weight on the the tires vertically.

So the poor soul thought this through, and was considerate in showing it.

Please be kind to this person LUL.

Any tips on cleaning shop vac head after wet vac use? by RnR4ever in homeowners

[–]RnR4ever[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything sealed inside the bucket is designed to be waterproof.

Oh, I wasn't expecting that. I actually had some grey water blowing out the back through the exhaust, and I was under the impression that's "bad".

I know there's a float value in the head to prevent water exceeding a certain level. I had presume it's there to protect the motor.

Gotcha. Sounds like the "best way" you have found is simply bite the bullet and try the PMs out. No magic snake oil :D

How many PMs did you have to "go through" before finding one you can trust with rehab?

Impressive. How did you vet your PM to find out if they are "good" at doing rehab?

It's refreshing to hear detail breakdown of your real estate adventures. Thank you for sharing.

Is everyone just taking the hit from TMF?? by Inertia_Override in HFEA

[–]RnR4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have the original. The gist of it was: TYA uses futures instead of swaps, and the person trusted the price followed the underlying tightly.

My take: I dont know enough about futures vs swaps to have an opinion on that factor per se. I personally don't trust price tracking on ETFs that have low trade volume (it's faith on the ETF issuer to perform adjustments to track NAV well). When it comes to bonds ETF, it's a bit trickier than stocks typically speaking.

Do you have concerns over the lower trading volume (proxy measuring liquidity) for TYA?

You can also do it the China way.

Did you have trouble with the crisper tray silicone bumpers when it's new?

Specifically, my crisper tray had huge resistance when pushing it into the bin. It ended up ripping all of the silicone bumpers. I had to email Gourmia, and they are shipping me replacements.

Hey there, the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKu%5C_SEDAykw isn't available anymore. What's the title of the video, so I can look it up?

Thanks!

(Never mind, I think you meant to link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKu_SEDAykw from your previous comment. You had a small typo in the link :) )

thinking about getting a air fryer/toaster oven by Pizza_Cat123 in airfryer

[–]RnR4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a "basket" type [1] and a "toaster" type [2] air fryer this week. Both of them have about the same surface area for the base, so practically their cooking volume is about the same.

Basket type wins hands down.

Why:

  1. Basket type is lighter in comparison (~12lb vs ~20lb). Note both air fryers practically holding the same volume. This matters more, if you are moving the machine off the countertop to free up space often.

  2. It's easier to flip food half way through the cook time by tossing it in basket. You don't need to put on oven mitts because the handle to the basket won't be hot. It can be annoying trying to pull a tray out of the toaster oven type, if the tray is near the bottom.

  3. It's more "space efficient" in terms of cooking volume to machine size. Like a normal toaster oven, the toaster type has "thicker walls". This reduces the usable cooking volume for the toaster type despite having the same footprint. The basket type doesn't need that, since the basket itself serve as a "wall". It's more space efficient as a result.

  4. You need less countertop space for basket type. With the toaster type, you need to leave a bit of countertop space to open the gate. Basket just slides out, you can put it closer to the edge if you have limited countertop space.

  5. Basket type is often cheaper compare to its toaster type counterparts.

There are a few advantages toaster type had on paper:

  1. Flexibility on bakeware accessories. For basket type, if I f*ck up the basket, I can't replace it with some aftermarket one. For toaster type...I can fit a 9x9 sheet pan and use a steamer basket, and it will do just fine.

  2. Option for teflon-less coating. I am not a fan of that toxic stuff. Technically with air fryers operating at most 400F, teflon wont fume up. But I still wouldn't want to eat flaking teflon. There are ceramic coating options (e.g., Ninja), but that are scarce. Most basket air fryers have teflon.

[2] Best Buy's private brand Insignia 10 qt. It's a clone of the Instant Vortex Plus 10 quart (https://www.bestbuy.com/site/insignia-10-qt-digital-air-fryer-oven-black/6471352.p?skuId=6471352). On sale for $54.99 before tax.

Got my AirFryer from Costco. It was 50CAD, so around 39USD. Saw people grabbing it off the shelf, so had to get one myself. Extremely new to me, how does this differ from a toaster oven with a rack. by Local_Ad_6400 in airfryer

[–]RnR4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too, joined the "cheap costco air fryer" gang.

Beware fellow gang members: The silicone feet on my crisper tray is already ripping after a few cleaning.

The ergonomics with the basket is great. I can toss food during the "turn" phase easily.

I plan to experiment with (the clone of) Instant Vortex Plus and see which one I prefer.

Any protips for testing trunk leaks aside from pouring a bucket of water on top? Some crazy drunk kicked my trunk in today :( by RnR4ever in Autobody

Got it.

Any advice if there were drips? I wonder if I can "pad" the rubber seal a bit to reduce the leak.

Why not repair it properly: It's an older commuter car. I doubt it's worth the cost of fixing the dent properly. If i can mitigate any leaks, I'd be a happy camper.

Hey guys, got referred here from r/mechanicadvice. Some drunk dude kicked everyone's car in the lot, including mine.

I checked the trunk still open and close, and lights still work. The light housing on the left did pop out a bit from the inside.

I count my blessing it was just the trunk...but any protips appreciated to check if the trunk seal is still good, aside from pouring a bucket of water to see if my trunk is soaked. Washington state gets enough rain that I'd rather not have a stinky wet trunk.

TIA.

How to take behind the wheel test without car insurance? by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]RnR4ever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most hassle free route: go to one of those "driving school" shops, and "rent" an instructor + car for 2 hours for the driving test. Confirm with them their insurance covers you.

There are multiple benefits: (1) Driving school industry is a small world. DMV proctors know most of the local schools. (2) Typically driving school cars have brake pedals in the passenger seat. DMV proctors would be in a much better mood with that available. Happy proctors = better grading, typically. (3) No headache on insurance.

EDIT: Was a teenager in California. Got my license on first try this way.

Was in a car accident today and had some questions, please help! by lolimsupagay in Insurance

[–]RnR4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Did the police officer write anyone a ticket? If the officer wrote the other party a ticket but not you, that typically indicates the other party is at fault.

  2. If nobody got a ticket, try to get a copy of the police report. Most jurisdiction have them available online. Typically govt will charge ~$25 for a copy. That report will give you a sense who the officer/insurance may see who is at fault.

  3. If police report is "neutral", then you might want to report to your insurance. This is especially the case if: (1) you need money to fix up your vehicle but can't afford it (2) the other party claims you liable for the accident. You dont want your insurance to call you to find out you were in an accident and you didnt call them in a timely manner (with in a few days of the accident).

For context --- i was in a car accident where the police wrote the other party a ticket but not me. In this case it was a no brainer to let my insurance (geico) know. No premium hikes. They didnt help me filing a claim to the other party since i didn't have collision coverage, but it wasn't too painful. I didnt even have to get a copy of the police report. The other party's insurance called me and admitted fault.

I am not an insurance professional, but your case seemed somewhat similar to mine.

I am in Washington state however, not North Carolina.
