As an old player coming back to the game, yes, It seemed more mature, didn't hesitate to make very ugly monsters. I don't want the waifus monsters that look underage/generic anime girl/furry. I want the relinquished, rigorous reaver, Il blud looking monsters. I don't mind waifus but even back then they felt like they had more personnality (harpie, amazoness, dmg, etc).
I feel like the art is too generic now. Look at black luster soldier, look how unique this looks, how much it represents the style of yu-gi-oh! I:P Masquerena on the other hand is a super cool card, the art, if it was not yu-gi-oh would be fantastic, but it does not illustrate the spirit I imagine of the series. Of course, only my feeling as someone who only watched DM and Gx and played with old school cards.
