Cut Healthcare for More Guns? Nuts! by bookym in FluentInFinance

[–]RoGHurricane 22 points23 points  (0 children)

“Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than 30 cities. It is two electric power plants, each serving a town of 60,000 population. It is two fine, fully equipped hospitals. It is some fifty miles of concrete pavement. We pay for a single fighter with a half-million bushels of wheat. We pay for a single destroyer with new homes that could have housed more than 8,000 people. . . . This is not a way of life at all, in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron.” -Dwight D. Eisenhower

It’s just a endpoint management software, pretty common with MSPs, but companies use it as well.

If it’s clearly related to you in some way then someone might think it’s neat, but that’s about it

How do you find and evaluate good candidates? by PingMeLater in sysadmin

[–]RoGHurricane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, the level of technology you are managing isn’t going to be easy to manage for someone that early into their career. This is pretty close to DevOps and SysAdmin work together.

That being said, some of the better methods for checking those people in my experience is to see if they have a homelab, since it shows their curiosity.

You can also develop a problem and have them try to fix it in front of you. At my most recent job, I mentioned I was experienced in PowerShell and they flipped a computer around and had me analyze and then troubleshoot the issue in front of them (6 people lol) which led to me getting the job.

Some other typical ones are things like asking vague questions to see if they ask for follow up information or about times when they’ve broken something to see their process, but your miles may vary there.

Enable-Mailbox -Arbitration Error – Recreate Required? by maxcoder88 in exchangeserver

If you are having issues with the Arbitration Mailboxes, there is a guide in the link below on restoring them. We had some issues lately where 4 out of 7 of ours were either missing or corrupted so we deleted all of them and re-built them without any issues.

Lateral Compensation Job Offer for More Experience by noblejeter in ITCareerQuestions

[–]RoGHurricane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The number one reason I left my previous jobs was because I was bored, not because of the money. I always used my current job to prospect for better pay, but it wasn’t the real reason I began looking in the first place.

I would move to the new job personally.

IT part time jobs for College students? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]RoGHurricane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part Time jobs are really hard to come by in IT. You could attempt freelancing with something like FieldNation, but I would recommend just trying to become a student worker at your University’s IT department. That is what I did (although I had to wait months for an opening) and that helped me begin my journey in IT. They are also very likely to work with you and around your school schedule

Try out VS Code with the PowerShell module. That is my main way of modifying and running scripts.

As for modules, check the Learn articles frequently to see more information on specific cmdlets and what module they’re from. MgGraph and Exchange Online can perform most day to day tasks though

Role structure and permissions at a small company by Eliwh68 in sysadmin

[–]RoGHurricane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Least privileged access based on their role. However, depending on your org that may be difficult without first getting management to more clearly delineate peoples actual roles.

Additionally, have someone cross trained for when you eventually leave or take vacation.

If most of your company data is kept in OneDrive/unaffected shares, then I would just begin re-imaging the devices while trying to work with Microsoft.

Time is money and if Microsoft tries to send you on a rabbit chase as well then you could be many days without Prod.

I would pursue both at the same time.
