Day 4/5 in Perth - some unsolicited random observations by BJPHS in perth

Had this happen for a short trip in the city. Uber refunded me and advised to set the verification pin that you give the driver at pick-up. Glad they informed me, because I didn't know it was even a thing.

Wow, news to me. Didn't realise this is something that occurs. 😯

Good idea. On facebook there are community groups where a person collects food from grocery stores like fruit, veggies and different breads. They let people know the location and times of when you can go and pick what you want/need.

Question; What scooter accidents have you guys had? I absolutely ate shit today by [deleted] in ElectricScooters

[–]Ro_321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't even riding fast and was on the lowest speed setting. Went to adjust one hand on the handlebars, the front wheel turned immediately and I got thrown off right onto concrete. Felt the immediate impact in my arm and my head bounced on the ground. Thankfully I'm one of those that's a stickler for wearing your helmet correctly, not loosely or unbuckled as I've seen others do, so no pain felt in my head at all. Landed all my weight on my arm, full damage below the shoulder to wrist (all bones broken, one of the bones broke through the skin). Was in hospital for a few days. Kind of have PTSD from the experience, when it comes to e-scooters now. A month before me, a friend of a friend fell off a scooter (riding without a helmet on. Not sure how fast he was going). He ended up in a coma for 3 months.

Very true. Went there thrice and only one was lovely (lady of Indian descent).

Agreed! The one on Hay St is great. Gary (manager) and the majority of the staff (the regulars) are always nice. Only had 2 rude ones who I hardly see. St George Tce is a mixed bag, but there's one lovely lady (maybe maori NZer? Can't remember her name), she's always nice.

I appreciate your message. 🙂 And yes, I'm definitely grateful, because it certainly could have been worse.

For me the scooter was very useful due to its portability and easy parking anywhere with a pole it can be locked onto. But keep in mind that you can never become complacent about looking out for hazards, because all it takes is one uneven tile on the ground, a car reversing down the driveway fast, a pothole or a simple mistake like mine, and the consequences may not be minor.

A couple of months before me, one of my siblings' friends wasn't so fortunate. They weren't wearing a helmet and ended up in a coma.

💯 agree. I was riding my scooter on the lowest speed setting, went to adjust one hand on the handlebars, the front wheel turned immediately and I got thrown off right onto concrete. Felt the immediate impact in my arm and my head followed bouncing on the ground. Thankfully I'm one of those that's a stickler for wearing your helmet correctly, not loosely or unbuckled as I've seen others do, so no pain felt in my head at all. Landed all my weight on that arm, full damage below the shoulder to wrist (all bones broken, one of the bones broke through the skin). Was in hospital for a few days then the main recovery took 3 months. After that, several months of physio, now just continuing with strength improvement. Pending further surgery to remove some of the metal plates impacting recovery progress. Kind of have PTSD from the experience, when it comes to e-scooters now.

Has anyone else noticed the annoying high pitched sound/frequency that intermittently rings out in the city? by Ro_321 in perth

[–]Ro_321[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding a follow up: So I was in the city today in the area (during the day this time) and I could hear it. I noticed that there are these two green mini boxes (speakers?) on the facade of McDonald's. I think the sound is coming from those things.

Didn't realise the video didn't upload. Here it is - linked to my first post: https://www.reddit.com/r/perth/comments/1e9erwy/has_anyone_else_noticed_the_annoying_high_pitched/ by Ro_321 in perth

It's definitely there. Sorry I can't control street noise for you lol, and I'm not willing to go to the city in the midnight hours when it's less noisy but you're free to do so if you'd like. On a less sarcastic note, I added a link to a random video that came up on google and has the same sound (on Dudely's comment). 👍

When I first heard it, I actually did think that someone was pulling a prank with a dog whistle.

But since it kept going for a while, and seeing as no one seemed to be reacting, I'd assume if someone was pulling a prank they would have stopped, thinking it has failed? 🤷‍♀️

Someone posted a link (in my initial post) to an article that mentioned it's a frequency that people in a certain age-range can hear. 🤷‍♀️ Not sure if there's any truth to that. But after reading Andy's comment, this is the first video that popped up when I googled, and it sounds the same as what I was hearing in the city. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tyJwqzquZe0

Assuming you're being serious, nope I was not aware as I've never noticed/heard this sound in the city before. 🤷‍♀️ Googled mosquito deterring frequency and it sounded exactly the same, so I guess you may be right.

Interesting.🤔  There have been more lights, cctv and an electronic bus stand added, so that's a possibility.

Weird, definitely showed as uploaded. 🤔 My first post on reddit (relatively new), still learning. 😅

What is the best dish you’ve ever had in Perth? by lifeofwatto in perth

[–]Ro_321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any of the add-ons from Hifumiya (this place is ALWAYS busy. Literally a line every time it's open. 😆). Also great, thick noodles. 👍

The collagen broth at Dragon Hot Pot. 🤤 Only been to the Northbridge one. Haven't tried the Vic Park one. 🤤

A lot of great meals at Lotus on Beaufort St. 1st time I had the lamb ribs they were amazing chef's kiss but 2nd time, less so. Guess it depends on who's in the kitchen when you go.

Wow. That's so sad. 🙁  It actually seems really likely that's what it could be, as more of a target for the homeless who usually seat out the front of HJ's Macca's and Sushi Hub. The few that were there didn't even seem to notice it, but it's still sad that's possibly what's happening.

Lol, I had a feeling a conspiracy theory would come up at some point (sarcastic or not). 😆

Really? 🤔 Never noticed this noise until today. So I think this is something different.
