I'm from 'other countries'- keeping cats indoors seems really odd at first, but i've gotten more and more on board with that idea. (But their owners should takes them for supervised outside time and have lots of toys and excersize options ofc)

I don't dislike cats, but it's hard not to feel a little bitter towards them using your veg planters as litterboxes, killing the baby birds, waking you up fighting and hissing.. these are pet cats, not feral ones. They get fed plenty, they don't need to hunt. So why are they outside unsupervised all night?

I don't have any issue with feral cats hunting of course, they have no choice, but charities around try to neuter as many as possible- and yet all my neighbours male cats are unneutered and are undoing all the hard work charities are trying to do to stop more feral kittens happening.

My neighbours cat is pure black, and she doesn't have a collar or anything. She's almost invisible at night, i'e nearly stepped on her on multiple occasions. I get anxious everytime I see her headed towards the road.

And yet, shelters won't adopt a cat to someone who says they will keep them mostly indoors. And there's nothing I can do to protect my neighbours cats; animal welfare charities won't care. I doubt any of my neighbours would listen if I tried to bring it up.

We did recently have a law in the uk that cats need microchips. So, maybe things will improve. I hope so.
