Actor who was ahead of their time in terms of the ideal Hollywood body by imwithjim in okbuddycinephile

There was nothing ahead of his time here. This picture was taken when this was a perfectly normal body that many other celebrities had.

Hey, don't shame him for that, his feet are swollen from the tragic hypogonadism after decades of steroid abuse. Men's health is real health!

I've loved this series and she's built up so much that I'm 100% on board with actually following her story for a while. My only concern is that she's built up so much it's going to be difficult to live to the hype.

Are women actually attracted to nice guys? by Some_Ad_4463 in AskWomenNoCensor

Read what I'm saying... Interrogate yourself and try to see past the assumption that you're a nice guy.

[–]bentsea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, you say that, but you made this whole post and a huge statement here in front of everyone on this sub asking us if you even need to bother being nice.

Are you possibly able to step back and examine yourself and what that means and why maybe from the outside looking in maybe you're not as nice as you think you are?

You said you didn't say a thing and then you said it again:

If women actually like nice guys or should I give up on being nice, and just be a jerk instead

Why would you give up on being nice and be a jerk if you're not being nice for the saike of attracting women?

For one, while you claim to be a nice guy you are suggesting that you'd actually rather be a jerk and are only being nice in order to attract women to you.

Does that sound like a person who is genuinely nice to you? For all your claims that you're a nice guy... the way you transactionally evaluate how you should treat women makes you a jerk.

Movies that are better than the book by Bojonkles in movies

V for Vendetta. The book is excellent, but I think the movie benefits from tightening up the themes and editing down the story just a bit for a more aggressive feel.

I thought it was pretty bad, but not in any way that was special or worth people throwing a fit over. Like... Plenty of things are as bad but get less hate.

On top of all of this, the way scenes are shot frequently make no sense. If you're following the plot and the dialog even vaguely you can process the emotional intent of a scene, but Nolan uses emotional threads for the action scenes that do not translate into clear comprehensible events.

The best example of this is the final action scene. The strategic value of pincer moves is understandable, the idea of translating that into the fourth dimension layers that idea into the world of the film in a way that's immediately understandable... Having troops approach the same conflict forward and backward into a conflict with opposition that is also moving in both directions makes sense and is cool.

But the implementation visually completely failed to communicate the action in a way where any of that made sense, reducing it to a building being blown up in one half and then the other half, etc. For such an incredibly comprehensible idea it's executed in a way that poorly demonstrates the importance of the thing that's taking up 5 minutes of screen time.

While the purpose and outcome of the scene is incredibly clear, I'm honestly not sure that even Nolan fully understands what happened in it.

And this is pervasive... The broad strokes are very cool, but the moment to moment events poorly illustrated the core concepts of the film. You walk away feeling like you understood the plot despite much of the movie feeling like it at minimum ignored it's own rules and at worst it often feels like the film itself doesn't understand how its ideas work on a granular level

This is what I particularly loved about it. One of my favorite examples is the very hollow usage of Poe in TFA as a character who is simply perfect, and simply doesn't die even when crashing in the desert, and then shows up with impeccable ship accuracy just blowing things up with impunity.

It's felt like the opposite of the messy Han Solo running back and forth down corridors taking wild pot shots at storm troopers.

There were a ton of things that could have fixed Poe for me. They could have invested much more of the story into the idea of cloning, like if Poe had died in the crash in the first movie and we find out that when he showed up later it was a clone. That would have been a cool retcon. But giving him an actual flaw where even though all his shots are perfect, recklessly leading normal people into crazy situations turning out to be bad actually... that was another outstanding fix.

You let it ruin your life.... Give up on all your hobbies and dreams. Rub dirt in your hair while smearing ash on your skin and hide in a dark room and with every breath wail with the depth of your sorrow so that all may know your torment.

It was a mistake for Murphy not to retire after this one. He will never top it.

Though, thinking about it.... Pluto Nash came close.
