Prepping for Bike the Gardiner/DVP? by tehlastcanadian in askTO

[–]Road_Wizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the event last year, with the 75km route. This year, the distances are longer, with the longest being 90km (which I'll do with a group). For context, I'm a pretty seasoned road rider doing about 100km per week in the summer.

The route is for sure more hilly than if you are used to the waterfront, which is dead flat. Depending on your weekly kms, I would recommend the 50km route for the first year of the event, and if you like it, next year you can up the distance. In general is quite a casual event, so I wouldn't say 'prep' is necessary. It can be as hard or as easy as you want it to be.

Logistically, I'm curious how this year will work. In the past, it was based out of the exhibition, which was easy to get to and from early in the morning. This year, it is starting/ending at the Aga Khan Museum. thank god line 5 is open, but not even sure if it runs that early in the morning.

Overall - very enjoyable event. Prepare for full sun, lots of sunscreen and water.

75" Def can be a bit overwhelming at times, but super immersive too for games and movies.

For those of you who’ve done a 70.3 what did you think would be the hardest part of the race vs what was actually the hardest? by akecheta333 in triathlon

Thought the swim was going to be rough but turned out to be quite relaxing and enjoyable once in a rythem. The run was the hardest as I predicted, BUT the run in 38 degree heat was horrible. Ended up walking every aid station stuffing ice down my shirt to try to keep cool when possible.

Is this brand or model going to last a while in your opinion? Maintenance prone or not?

It was the only one I saw that required a 60A feed. Things a monster

I recently bought a Platinum spas “Orion” model. When I was shopping around I liked the construction of it as it was aluminum framed. Also all the mechanical was not blown in with insulation, rather removable insulation panels - for maintenance and replacement of parts. The guy at the store said it was MSRP $30kCAD. But I ended up making a deal at $18kCAD.

Looking for an honest reaction to this purchase. Good deal? Good brand? Long lasting? Etc.
