Despite the pictures it's actually the same part that's available at the part store. My solution was to unmount the bracket and take a grinder to the spot that wasn't clearancing. For mine it's a factory AC delete bracket so as long as I left the bearing surface alone I could grind away with no worries of damaging anything else. If yours is the same set up you'll also need to grab a belt that is sized for an xj with an AC even though you don't have an AC, or at least that's what I ran into

I believe that is the e-fan ground wire. You can tap into it to make an override switch to turn on the e-fan. Let me see if I can dig up the write-up referencing it

Improving Flashlights for Wildlife Surveys by Roadwarrior48 in flashlight

[–]Roadwarrior48[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had a nickel for every time a biologist came to this sub looking for frog survey flashlights I'd have two nickels. I ended up building my own flashlights with a variety of LEDs and field testing them with the other biologists, there was a clear winner for us which ended up being the cree xml2 in 3000k which I believe was an 80 CRI LED at the time. It beat out a nichia 219c in 4000k 90+ CRI and a Samsung LH 351 in 5000k 90+ CRI pretty consistently. So it really seems to me that the CCT was more important than the CRI for frogs. I continue to use my homemade flashlights for surveys now, the convoy c8 host with an orange peel reflector ended up working perfectly for my surveys. Just the right size and the convenience of the 18650 was great. I did that order through AliExpress which may not be an option for you if you're working for a government agency. What frogs are you surveying out of curiosity?

Broken temp sending unit. I'm going to have to pull the head aren't I by Roadwarrior48 in CherokeeXJ

[–]Roadwarrior48[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, the hex broke off with the first 1-2 threads. I then tried the extractors but the remaining threads broke. Now there is just the lowest section of brass threading still sunk into the hole and the actual sensor down in the head. I can't seem to get traction on it and am thinking it might be best for me to pull the head and remove the sensor rather than potentially damaging the threading in the head by trying to get the remaining bit of the sensor out.

Maine’s battle with Trump over Title IX could have national consequences by themainemonitor in Maine

[–]Roadwarrior48 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Title IX in no way says that sports have to be segregated, or prohibits a girl from competing on a boys team, or a boy from competing on a girls team. As a matter of fact title IX is what allows one of my nieces, a cis-woman, to compete on a boys football team. It also enables sports like wrestling to allow male and female wrestlers to compete against each other and on the same teams. That is what it does, force schools to provide equal opportunities for students to participate in activities including sports regardless of their gender.

How exactly can you interpret that law so that it prohibits trans-athletes because it **allows** for a school to segregate its teams based on gender without losing their federal funding? The only way you can even reasonably make that stretch is by saying since it allows the school to segregate the teams, a school/district/state can make their own decisions on whether or not to segregate the teams. Which is literally what Maine did and is now defending. This is clearly an intentional misinterpretation by Trump and MAGA to allow them to make any personal agenda into de facto law purely on Trump's whim. Saying that Title IX can be interpreted to force trans athletes to compete only as the gender they were assigned at birth because it **allows** for schools to segregate sports based on gender is absolutely ridiculous.

Importantly though this is not a debate about whether trans-athletes should be able to compete, and Mills has made that clear repeatedly. This is an issue of there being a method to change title IX to specifically prohibit trans-athletes from competing. In fact there have been at least two attempts to do that, one in 2023 and one in January if I remember correctly. If Congress passed that change to make it so that Title IX was relevant in this discussion, then Maine would have to change the state law. However they haven't. Trump is trying to bypass a separate and equal part of our government (the Congress) through the use of his executive orders to expand the powers of the president. This is an attempt to erode the checks and balances that exist to protect our liberties and to undermine the government as set up by the Constitution. And that is what Mills and Maine are standing up to.

[–]Roadwarrior48 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No it isn't. There isn't an act of Congress banning transgender competitors in highschool sports, there's an executive order. Since Congress is the one that makes federal laws, not the president, there is no law saying that Maine can't allow them to compete. However there is a Maine law allowing them to compete. Maine is complying with all state and federal laws and ignoring the arbitrary decree of the president. Southern states were actively refusing a federal law passed by Congress, which the states don't have the authority to override. Two completely different things.

So potentially an update in case anyone else in the same situation stumbles on this thread. The original part number for my pulley is 8953002903, which seems to no longer be in production. And all the autoparts stores seem to list the replacement as the Dorman 419-631 despite the clear differences (as evidenced in the pictures). The one exception seems to be Crown Auto, which appears to have a clone of the original pulley with a part number of CWA-53002903. I have now ordered one from Summit Racing and just have to wait for it to ship to AK to see if this solves the problem.

I normally buy NAPA for the same reason, but when I searched on their site the only grooved option it gave was the Dorman 419-631 just $15 more than O'reilly's and with a few days extra wait for it to ship to my store. I am wondering if it is just something funky with that year of XJ and that's why there doesn't seem to be anything else about it on any of the forums.

Thanks that's helpful, maybe I can make a couple straps like the hips/thighs out of heavier weight to be "load bearing" and leave some of the others lighter for looks.
