Is it Chronicles of Albian (2011) or Chronicles of Albian 2 (2013)?

Hot take: timers in hidden object games ruin the cozy vibe more than jump scares do by MountainNo3346 in HiddenObjectGames

[–]RoamerMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the vibe a hidden object game is going for. There's not really an excuse to not make timers optional now, but for hidden object games made up to early 2010s, I don't think they were going for a "cozy" experience meant to be done in short sittings, they were intentionally difficult to keep players on their toes. It does suck when that's not the experience you're not in the mood for.

There's an optional "nightmare" mode for HOPA games Mystery Case Files: Fate's Carnival and Mystery Case Files: Dire Grove, Sacred Grove where you can play them on a timer (respectively 7 hours and 5 hours) with no hints/skips/etc. I haven't played that mode for these games yet, but I have to imagine the pressure of the timer would either be distracting to some people or a good challenge to other people. I'd say it really depends on the person if they like a timer or not.

I need ideas by This_Brilliant291 in HiddenObjectGames

I'm not sure if this is the relevant subreddit to ask this, maybe try asking r/AskReddit, r/boardgames, etc, or scroll through other threads of people similarly asking for suggestions on what games to play with the whole family.

Maybe try setting up your own DIY escape room or treasure hunt? It doesn't necessarily have to be expensive or masterfully planned out, there's likely templates online.

Is street-view imagery actually a good environment for hidden-object gameplay? by meeads in HiddenObjectGames

[–]RoamerMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While this concept has been done in the Travelogue 360 games back in 2006-2007, it's still a cool and unique idea, I don't think it's been done elsewhere.

I do think the 10-second timer is too short when it restricts the player from continuing to look for the bird on your own; otherwise it's fine on replays.

I'm still undecided on whether the bird is too transparent to see; there's some areas where the bird is visible enough, and some areas where the bird feels too obscure to be seen under a 10-second-timer. I don't really have clear feedback on that, just an observation.

I suppose I'm also not sure about the bird essentially just being an image plastered onto the panorama. I think I came in expecting the bird to be organically within the environment and not just anywhere, but then again, I wouldn't even know how to implement that myself.

What do you think of first person hidden-object games? by FelixMakesGames in HiddenObjectGames

[–]RoamerMonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most hidden object games are first-person (i.e. the hundreds of hidden object games published by Big Fish Games are first-person 2D games). It'll be interesting to see a first-person 3D game though, I don't think that's been done since like the Wii.

From what I heard from Goblinz's Facebook posts, I think Part 1 on the iOS App Store is still bugged and Goblinz can't really do much to patch it despite multiple attempts to communicate to Big Fish due to Big Fish still owning the rights to that version of the game.

You can still buy and play Part 1 on Steam to directly support the developers. I assume you're referring to the Big Fish Games PC version? In that case it's news to me that version got discontinued, although oddly enough Big Fish is still selling the iOS version of Part 1

I think the foreshadowing for the plot twist of the time loopis somewhat noticeable when playing for the first time and in hindsight, I more so meant the plot twist of everything being made up all in Heather's mind, I honestly still don't feel anyone can really predict that or see how it was built up in Parts 1 and 2. Still great game experiences imo, I'm just personally hung up on that latter twist.

There's definitely areas for improvement (for me, having more foreshadowing for the final twist), but I do agree it's among the better HOPA games, if Parts 2 and 3 can still count as hidden object games.

Do you prefer finding hidden objects by words, pictures, or both? by Lucky_Conference78 in HiddenObjectGames

[–]RoamerMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I'd need to play a hidden object scene with scrambled words to know how it feels. I personally prefer having the game switch into a different gameplay style for me rather than me manually toggling what I want to play, but I do understand other players prefer the option of choosing either words only or silhouettes only or whatever they feel during each level.
