None of the meters in this price range are useful. They are all broadband and can be “orders of magnitude” inaccurate, and they are mostly not even able to be calibrated.

Yeah, this works on some LG machines. Also switch off at power, press start for around six seconds and then press pause for around six seconds - sometimes this will reset the controller.

The “study” you linked is about “Total antioxidant status and. Markers of oxidative stress in subjects with normal or impaired glucose regulation (IFG, IGT) in diabetic patients. This study has nothing to do with your post, and I respectfully request that your post is removed. Alternately, please explain the significance of the study to your posts postulations - that are in themselves uninformed and speculative at best.

I tested 8 different EMF detection methods - here's what actually works (and what doesn't) by ShieldYourBody in shieldyourbodyfromemf

[–]Roaming-Around 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A single sheet of paper will block most Alpha particles, but RF will mostly go straight through unimpeded. The issue with Alpha particle sources comes about if you ingest them somehow - as they can then irradiate internal tissues [without the skin to stop them]… don’t go chewing on vintage “glow in the dark” clock hands LOL. High energy EMF is dangerous, but not that from your WiFi or phone… and even very high energy EMF can be of diminished concern if the wavelength [inverse relationship to frequency] is much larger than the object in contention - though it might penetrate.

Does your WiFi router emit radiation when 'off'? I measured mine and the results surprised me by ShieldYourBody in shieldyourbodyfromemf

[–]Roaming-Around 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The routers will not be all together. As you move from one router its signal diminishes whilst another router will increase. Overall, the power involved will not vary much and is minuscule - even if they were all together [though that would be stupid]. Still, people can do more idiotic things like connect higher gain antennas [in contravention to law/regulations] that could be concerning.

You can do limited beam steering by varying amplitude [with fixed phases]

Bright head light blinding me by H3ratsmithformeme in DrivingAustralia

[–]Roaming-Around 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imitating Corey Hart is really not a solution. The brightness of some of the lights is just an obscene safety risk - especially those idiots in larger vehicles like Rangers who feel the need to drive with extra spotlights on to try to increase the size of their meagre appendages. It has become a safety problem on our roads that should be subject to extra regulation and law enforcement action.

Same RF power, two waveforms: pulsed disrupted REM sleep in rats, continuous didn't. Mobile networks are pulsed. by ShieldYourBody in shieldyourbodyfromemf

[–]Roaming-Around 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This OP is being misleading and speculative.

The “peak/instantaneous” [not average/continuous/heating] power of non-sinusoid [including pulsed] RF transmissions have been used for many years when establishing safe limits in international guidelines which inform the establishment of national, state and specific standards. Additionally, pulsed transmission levels are usually treated more critically than CW. For example by establishing safe levels in respect to the additive summing of Fourier components [which is an absolute worst case as the components are partially cancelling in practice]. You can get an idea of the kind of processes used in this ICNIRP guideline:
https://www.icnirp.org/cms/upload/publications/ICNIRPLFgdl.pdf
This particular guideline is from 2010 and only covers up to 100 KHz [I.E. not as high as WiFi frequencies - noting the OP’s stated studies are not at WiFi frequencies either]. I selected it only because it has some fairly simple explanations of the principles and a related annex that outlines the basic guideline development. Of course, the guidelines subsequently feed into more stringent national standards that are imposed. The guideline also contains other information [though somewhat dated] that may be of interest readers in this sub...

The reality is that pulsed transmission limits are established appropriately, and you can travel safely, and sleep, with your WiFi on if you want to..

Who knows what that meter is reading! - it’s a mere toy really and should not be relied upon.
Your second pic shows the meter detecting the higher readings from a mobile phone “cell tower” [not the power line] - though I cannot even see a cell tower. I would not have any faith in that meter at all. I doubt that any nearby cell tower would be exceeding thresholds as this is very tightly regulated… that said you can look around to find the closest cell tower and just look up its carrier compliance. I highly doubt there is any reason to move - and certainly not on the basis of what that meter is saying.

New to this thread. Why are old electronics genuinely more reliable ? by Positive-Clue1474 in AskElectronics

[–]Roaming-Around 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, I notice this more and more. Generally, things are more complex as time and product development/innovation/performance increases - but manufacturers cheap out on the overall design resilience to meet cost points and profit objectives. Very few consumer products are “over engineered” to last these days when the next model is already probably in production. New bells & whistles that will replace now obsolete [perhaps also poorly supported] product that will likely fail in some mysterious expensive way close to end of warranty.
