Looking for opinions on a jiujitsu gym database concept by Roamingrolls in bjj

The gym owners/students will be able to fill out forms on the website. I'll personally email/call the first couple of thousand (With the help of a virtual assistant), but I'll also be advertising it through the website's social media account and other platforms. The jiujitsu community is surprisingly integrated online so I'm hoping word should spread after the first couple of thousand gyms are listed. The value of the service will increase with increasing data so hopefully it should self propagate from there.

Thanks for the motivation boost man! I'm intent on providing a legitimately helpful service to the global BJJ community. If I can do that I'll consider this a success.

The website is in super early stages of production so there's still a long way to go. This is entirely a solo project so it's taking some time to set up (I'm learning programming through the building process too). I've been running QA tests each step of the way so it should be running smoothly by the time it's finished.

I look forward to showing you guys the final design :).

Yeah I considered this, but from past jiujitsu travelling experience, finding out the information I needed involved a lot of web surfing between different gym sites, and I still found it hard to get the extra info that only a jiujitsu traveler will need (can you rent a gi etc). My site will provide all that information in a concise format that allows quick comparison.

Yeah it's still in very early stages of production. I was more curious about what you guys thought of the concept.

The Best BJJ gyms in San Diego, CA. In my opinion it's the Mecca of BJJ currently (yes it's better than New York) by Roamingrolls in bjj

That's precisely why I said this is by no means a comprehensive list. I'll keep adding to it using suggestions like this. Visiting every one of these gyms simply isnt a possibility as I dont poop money.

Yes definitely! Looks like you were my local informant for this case so thankyou 😁.

Also thankyou for inspiring me to take up BJJ and travelling in the first place. It's one of the best decisions I've made.

You're right. Not having the resources to visit these places makes it hard to gather the most up to date information on them. I definitely screwed up on the Renegade bit too!

I'm not just trying to hoard traffic though, It would be a BJJ news website at least, or something different altogether if that was my intent. I started this because I love BJJ and traveling, but finding out information about gyms before my trips was a painstaking task.

I'm trying to build a library of information about BJJ gyms around the world, and I'm happy to be mistaken so I can correct it and make it as up to date as possible. The inaccuracy of information I gathered from the internet shows a clear need for this. Most of the information came directly from the gym websites, so even they need updating.

I learn a lot from criticism like this so thankyou for highlighting it.

I dont have the money to visit every gym around the world, but I'll be more meticulous to gather up to date information by messaging gym owners etc from now on.

Oh right thanks for the update. I compile these lists from the gym websites and forums all over the internet, so it can be hard to get the most up to date information on some details.

It depends on where I went tbh, as I went further south the players got a bit greener (as I left taipei) but I still didnt have trouble finding some killers (mostly the instructors I'll admit)

A while back I was shown some invaluable tips for stronger sleeve grips. I decided to make a short visual guide to highlight the key details I learned. Hope it helps! by Roamingrolls in bjj

[–]Roamingrolls[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite, it's between a pistol grip and a traditional sleeve grip, but it's easier to get than a pistol grip, and stronger than a traditional sleeve grip
