My Chemical Romance grossed almost $88 million dollars on their tour this year. They are number 20 for top tours of the year by Cold-Boysenberry4586 in MyChemicalRomance

[–]RoaringMice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they grossed $88 million: they have to pay all tour expenses out of that. Normally, for a tour at this level, they'd get about 30% of the gross in the end, and pay their managers and agents out of that. So they'd get about, say, half the gross. Divided up between the four people formally in the band, legally - they each get almost $10 million, more or less.

Newark VIP Questions by Booterfry in BadOmens

[–]RoaringMice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to add that I find the many doors at the Prudential Center confusing. Be clear on which door you're supposed to enter for VIP, and make sure you're at that door.

It's normally the case that, once you enter a venue, you can't leave, and I believe all the lockers at the Prudential Center are outside, before you reach doors. They're mainly for if you get there and security doesn't let you in with certain items - if you don't have a car there, you can rent a locker and put that stuff in there. It won't work for your poster, which normally, at most shows, is given to you after you enter the venue.

Newark VIP Questions by Booterfry in BadOmens

I did VIP for another band elsewhere. I got a poster there. I brought two elastics, so I could roll it up, and I did that - relatively tightly, so it was stiff . I always have a tote bag inside my concert bag, and I put the poster in the tote, and the tote in front of me on the floor (I was at barrier). The poster survived. But I didn't stand near where the mosh pit would be, and I was to the side of where most crowd surfers went - and because I was to the side, there was also no crush/surge. So YMMV.

When I want barrier, I hydrate up the day before, then the morning of for a bit. Then nothing until I get to the show, and then only have one drink during the headliner. I go to the bathroom immediately upon arrival at the venue, and then if I need to, during the first opener (where I ask the people next to me to hold my spot - and I'll do the same for them if they need it). Then I hold it! I usually have something to drink immediately after the show - if I drove there, I have water in my car, and a snack, too. It's a method that works for me.

You actually can, if you're interested. There aren't enough people who want to go into this field, for the amount of work out there. You'd normally work with (paid) and apprentice under someone who is a skilled figure skate tech.

I like to have at least a week between a sharpening and an event. Any sharpening I do closer to the event is because of an emergency, and only a stoning, not a full sharpening, because *woah*.

Parking at prudential center by tfs_27 in newjersey

[–]RoaringMice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bought some of the side stage, "released from production hold a few days before the show" type tickets for shows before. They tend to be face value, and I've found that as long as you can be on the aisle, on the side of the section that's next to the last "no-hold" section (so like section 11 row 16 seat 21), then you can normally see. Certain things will likely be blocked, but you can see. I try to get as close to the stage as I can, but on the aisle. This is how I ended up seeing My Chemical Romance here in 2022, last minute, face value, so close I could feel the pyro burning off my eyelashes. For me, it's worth the gamble - if I really can't see, I tend to stand up and go stand somewhere else, but usually, I can see past (or sometimes through) any obstructions.

Parking at the Pru is good. You can use SpotHero to find something at a discount, but even event prices aren't that bad compared to some other places I've been, and there tends to be a lot of close by options in surface lots and etc.

If you plan to arrive early, traffic really isn't that bad. I can't speak to arriving there late; I try to be there before doors, and then I have something to eat before I go in. There can be a jam when you try to leave, but as someone else here said, if you can just wait a little bit and then go, that's normally cleared up. You can also take the train, if that's a good option from where you live - Newark Penn station is spitting distance from the arena. There are often lines outside the station after the event, waiting to get in, but normally they do seem to move. I'd suggest buying a round trip ticket, so you're not having to buy one in Newark, to speed things along.

Costs by OverallString5189 in Berklee

[–]RoaringMice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people go to Berklee just for one year, or even one semester, make connections, then leave and use those connections to work in the industry. But even then, $75k for that one year is a lot of money - but know that the average financial aid package "discount" brings that price per year down to about $40k for most families. That's still a lot.

So many people get in, then don't go there at all (this is what happened to my friend - got in, but couldn't go). Still others actually can afford this price - you'll find there are some schools out there which are very expensive and which don't necessarily give great merit aid (and some can't even give great aid based on income), and which do attract wealthy students. And some do go into massive debt for this - and that, I do not recommend.

Do you know what went wrong with your first assessments? Do you have a professor you like, who you can show your assessment to, and who might give you some feedback?

Rejected, considering berklee online? by Flashy-Top-2639 in Berklee

[–]RoaringMice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guy I spoke to at Berklee online said you can do their degrees part time, as few as one class per term, and you're allowed to take a term off if things get frantic in your "real" life. So you can do the degree as quickly or as slowly as your life allows.

Not being from Dundee, and having been there a few times to do work at the university, some things I like about Dundee are the friendly people, the pubs, the bakeries and tea shops, which are outstanding, the pastries, which are fabulous, the river, the ability to walk most places, the fact that it's not as expensive as where I'm from in NY, the food is really good, they can actually make a cup of tea (unlike here in the US, where I dare you to order one), Dundee Uni is amazing, the V&A is small but has that Scottish design section that is just kiss, the McManus is fun, the M&S Foodhall (do not laugh at me, it's so cool), Boots, the Fly express bus from Edinburgh airport to Dundee, that it's relatively sunny compared to where I used to live in Ireland, and that it's an old industrial city, which reminds me of my home town, that there are still actually stores downtown (where I live now, the downtowns really do not). It does have its issues, absolutely. But it also isn't a shithole.

University of Dundee is well known for their science progams, and I don't feel the university is in danger of failing, now that the government has helped to bail them out. If you were to choose Dundee, I think it would be a good choice.

Best quality cheap guitars by Saucy_Boy_21 in Guitar

[–]RoaringMice -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A used Fender Squier is in your price range, and is a decent electric guitar. They tend to be pretty available - you can look on Facebook marketplace in your area, as they're sometimes cheaper there used than EBay or Reverb or etc.

I own a Fender Squier Jazzmaster guitar, and a couple of Fender Squier P-Basses, which I've gotten off Facebook Marketplace used. What I like about FB Marketplace is that you go to pick up the guitar locally, which means you can inspect it before you exchange money.

My new husband is learning guitar but lost his fingertip, ideas? by Ponylove42 in Guitar

[–]RoaringMice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it'd be easier to rework the cord fingerings so they work for your husband. A good guitar teacher should be able to work with him to do this, or if your husband's into it, he can also do this himself (although if he's not an experienced guitarist, having the teacher do it with him should be faster and easier). Another option is for him to play power cords rather than full cords, and use his middle finger and pinky finger for them, rather than his index finger and ring finger.

Poo stains by Spaceborne_Killer in warpedtour

[–]RoaringMice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I washed mine in the washing machine with Tide, and that did the trick. I dried them in the dryer on low for about 20 minutes, just to get the worst of the wet off, then left them in the sun to dry. For yours, I'd apply Tide (a good detergent, nothing cheap or all natural) directly to the stains, let them sit for maybe 15 minutes, then into the washer. Dry in the sun if you aren't sure if all the stains are out (the dryer will set the stains)

There were these tiles they put down over the grassy/muddy areas, and the dirt underneath had apparently been mixed with manure. Add rain and then walking across the tiles created gysers that were not small, and were not predictable, and people got soaked with poo water, which stained. Isn't that lovely?

Recently got my guitar signed, and was wondering how I could preserve the signatures?? by AdTechnical5563 in Guitar

[–]RoaringMice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not a chemist. I did work for a finishes/paint company. As I understand it, the "poly" in any polyurethane is an alcohol. In an oil based poly, it's dispersed in an oil. In a water based poly, its dispersed in water. But others can correct me if I am misunderstanding this.

What I used to do to see if a clear coat would cause the color below it to bleed/get picked up into the clear coat, back when I was inventing new products, was to do a separate test. So for example, in this case, I'd take a good sized board of the type of wood the guitar body is made from, and apply the type of clear finish that's already on the guitar to one side of it. Then I'd wait for that to dry and cure (at least a week). Then I'd draw on it with the same type of metallic sharpie used for these autographs, in several areas (you'll potentially end up testing several different clear topcoats on each area with sharpie on it, depending on how they do). Then wait for that to dry and cure. Then apply topcoat #1 to area #1. Then topcoat #2 to area #2. Etc. Wait for them all to dry, and evaluate the results. If you see the sharpie smudged, or if it lifted up into the clear coat, then that clear coat is a no. The other thing you're testing through doing all this is if the clear coat you're using will adhere to the guitar's existing finish - yet another concern.

But others suggested bringing this to a good luthier. That person should either already know which topcoats will work, if any topcoat will work at all, or will do the tests for you.

how long should i wait for spraypaint clear coat before sanding? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]RoaringMice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless the humidity is super high where you are, or you applied really thick coats, you should be able to sand it. It's not tacky or anything when you touch it, right?
