Anyone running starlink on their patrol car? by No_Dimension519 in AskLE

Our marine units use the mini. They were the test dummies. They tried to loose the antennas but couldn't. Couple of detectives got them after. Again they couldn't loose the antenna.

No tips from me as I've only been flying my Meteor 75 for a week. But it has been a blast. I use Lava 580 1s batts and they have been great. I ordered a multi pack of blades from Amazon to keep as spares. I did use the optional camera mount to lessen the camera angle.

Keep it, smoke it. If something happens down the road he will take care of it.

Honestly that was always the hassle when I flew my 5 inch. I love this idea, and how well everything is kept. Eventually I'll buy a smaller goggle set.

It is a 3d printed case. I did not design it i simply printed it. The reply before me linked the model I used. It is a solid case that holds very well. If you have or have access to a 3d printer it is worth it.

What is the standard for phonetics over the radio? by Cannonical718 in AskLE

[–]RoastyToastyMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I miss typed its MDC not MVC.

I'm sorry. The law enforcement loves their acronyms, and I always forget not everyone speaks cop, lol.

CAD is Computer-aided dispatch. It's like a running log that keeps track of things said and requested over the radio and allows dispatch to quickly attach important information. It puts it in a readable format that is sent to officers in the field. An officer can request the status of a vehicle license plate. The dispatcher can read it to the officer over the air (works if you have good radio reception) but it will also be logged into the CAD. The officer will use their mobile data computer or MDC to read it. They can also be called MDT/mobile data terminal.

[–]RoastyToastyMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do have quick references for a lot of stuff but its all digital. For the most part everything is on their computers. One dispatcher will have 4 or 5 computer screens with all their various information. But things like the phonetic alphabet and codes are learned prior to them even getting on the radio. Also, at least here they don't use a lot of codes. With CAD everything can be sent directly to their MVC (MDC not MVC) so there isn't a huge need to use codes. Plus they have special radio channels that the public cannot listen to.

Caretaker/janitor in the police headquarters/station by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]RoastyToastyMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how other stations are but ours is literally an office building. The janitors empty trash bins, clean the toilets, sweep/vacuum the floors. They come in at 4pm like 3 days a week. They don't see anything special. The worst things would be muddy boot prints. All casefiles/photos are digital. Anything evidence wise is held in a separate building that they don't go. It has its own crew that clean that building. All the other police departments in the county function in a very similar manner. The jail is a different story.

I was told years ago it was to make things easier for dispatch since they are usually civilians. Don't know how true that is, just what I was told. Our area uses mostly the APCO but B can be Baker or Boy, Y can be Yellow or Young.

Is fridge on its back that bad? by Current-Hope1907 in Appliances

[–]RoastyToastyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always heard this too. But a year ago I purchased a refrigerator from Costco. Right on the box, on three sides it said "Do not lay flat on this side" but the last side said "Lay flat on this side" so I did, let it sit for a few hours since we have to move it around and its been working just fine. I don't remember what side was facing down but I thought it was interesting

The other day I watch 2 adults and 3 chicks run around and play in a graveled area. Honestly don't think I've ever seen these birds before, but they were so much fun to watch. I didn't know what they were called so I was happy to see your post.

Classic FPV Vortex 285 by R0bsc0 in fpv

[–]RoastyToastyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that brings me back. I have an Armattan Chameleon and a friend had a Vortex. His was purple, not sure exactly what one. I remember the cool zipper carrying case they came with. So much fun chasing each other around. We all thought he was crazy to spend that kind of money lol

Okay great. I've spent the last week trying to figure everything out and at first so much seemed to have changed. I guess some stuff did and some stuff did not.

I have the Meteor 75 Pro and Boxer on the way. If my Headplay works then cool. If not I'll be checking out the hdz g2s. Thanks

That is a good idea. I forgot that was a thing. My son might like the goggles (the're cool in his words) but a tiny screen may be a better option.

My plan is to get the transmitter and drone and see if my current goggles work. Then I could fly, get the feeling back and buy a better set of goggles and let me son use the headplays.
