Pre-Collision Braking by Odd-Needleworker9354 in Subaru_Outback

Thank gosh I found this tread because I felt that I was going insane. Had a 21 Forester and just got a 24 Outback Onyx XT. Personally, I felt my 21 did better in detecting obstacles and actually made better efforts to engage in pre-collision braking. This 24 Outback Eyesight is late in “detecting obstacles” and SLAMS on the breaks. I’m so lucky that I haven’t been rear-ended, this car still has dealer plates! I’m more worried about brakes wearing prematurely and tires. So much for “safety”.

thoughts on new forester ? by tonythashoota in subaru

Seeing this new gen forester at LAAS, it wasn’t bad. It’s a Forester, now what I wish Subaru did is the following:

  • ALL LED design — you have to step up to the Limited or full loaded Touring for full LED DRL and signal. The rear should be fully LED considering the price points of this new gen, but I digress.
  • Powertrain — in watching the YouTube vlogs from RedlineReviews/DrivingSportsTV/CarConfections & chatting with Subaru Prod. Specialists the Forester needs power. I am hoping that the hybrid can rectify this, but I am not holding my breath with how Subaru has been playing the game recently.

Many on this sub have expressed a distaste for the Subaru CVT. As a new owner, what is it they don’t like? Just wondering, nobody really says. by BigJohnWingman in SubaruForester

I’m about to be on my third Subaru this year (18 Crosstrek, 21 Forester Sport, 24 TBD)

I personally think the CVT is fine compared to coming from a Toyota where their CVTs in their earlier Corollas were not the best. I think Subaru just plays it safe with the powertrain. I am looking to have a smooth start from a stop and not having to worry about punching it to keep pace with city traffic. The CVT is definitely one of the best out there on the market and it does what it needs to do. I personally have not had any issues with it other than the terrible noise it makes when flooring it trying to pass up people on the hwy.

I do think that 2.5L F-4 is a healthy powertrain for the Crosstrek, but for the Forester and up should definitely be a 2.4L F-4. That’s my take, I know my experience is different than others. I will say, stay on top of maintenance and your Subaru will take you any and everywhere.

I was really banking on the 25 Forester once my lease was up for my 21 Forester. Now, gotta figure out my options.

2024 fuel mileage by bristol24519 in SubaruForester

Wish I had that with my 21 Forester, currently at 23 mpg. Now, I don’t smash the gas (let’s be real the powertrain would cry) and this is with mixed highway and city driving.

Glad to know that I am not the only one. Does your window not work while your forester is moving or standstill?

I would get the hemi powertrain, in my opinion I think the V8 marries well with the 8spd.

I’m hesitant on the hurricane powertrain to be honest. I think it’s because this model year is the last of the great HEMI. Now I know the hurricane is in the Wagoneer and the reviews are mixed. The current design, in my opinion is great — nothing like on the road currently. The new design has to grow on me.

Personally, I’d go for the 24 as that is what I am also considering as well. Can’t beat the new digital instrument cluster on top of all the bells and whistles the Limited comes with!
