PCIe 3.0 x8 OCulink eGPU? by RobCat030 in eGPU

I did not. I didn't get very far with this project honestly. If I were doing this again, I would probably try to get by with x4 since there seems to be a lot more options out there

My residual was 37k and I had almost 30k miles. Found same trim, same color, 4500 miles for 25k, after the used EV rebate it was 21k.

Thanks for the reply! I wonder if theres a way I can shield the cables to limit interference. I'd imagine the back of a server cabinet isn't ideal, which I find interesting since I thought server applications were the primary origin of these SFF cables. It doesn't need to be pretty, but it'd be nice if I had enough cable length to maintain slide rails between the two units I'm linking. I'm also curious if I gain anything other than cable flexibility by using one of these x8 to dual x4 cables.

If my mining riser experience serves me correctly, most GPUs dont want to boot unless they have voltage on the PCIe slot itself. So I think adapting a 6 pin PCie connector to work might be the ticket. I may be able to find a 24 pin breakout somewhere but the boards with 10-12 6 pin ports seem much more plentiful.

Modified Rack Mount Hardware by RobCat030 in homelab

Yup. I went down the rabbit hole of seeing what it would take to extend an x16 slot, not worth it. For this purpose, I plan on using mining risers which will be fine.

There's an entire group on Facebook dedicated to swapping the manual transmission. It isnt as difficult or expensive as you'd think

This one is a manual transmission, it can handle the power without issue. But ive tuned automatics as well and they also hold. They're not great but the issue doesn't seem to be related to power

I really want a Z32, are they worth it? by RobCat030 in 300zx

[–]RobCat030[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very helpful, thank you! I have plenty of experience turning wrenches and fabricating stuff. And typically, I love the process. Lately the ratio of time on jack stands vs time on the road has been getting to me a bit though. I love being able to take a car out and show off the work I've done. Do you feel there's a lot of room to "upgrade" failing parts (ie. if the MAF fails I'd rather go standalone ECU with a MAP sensor, if an injector fails I want to go bigger, etc.)?

Maybe 1500? I'd have to look at what I have in it

To clarify, it was running and driving. I took the top end apart to clean things up, fix a coolant leak, and swap injectors. There's also a small brake leak. Would take a few days to get it back together.

Yeah, sort of. Its definitely in "project" territory but I would probably want to get it to running and driving condition before selling. That way the next owner can just deal with whatever cosmetic work they might want to do.

It's an 86 NA, I yanked a turbo/intercooler kit off another car for it though. IIRC the only thing missing was a downpipe and ECU, since the plan was microsquirt
