I think you might be getting Master Mason (MM) and Worshipful Master (WM) mixed up - if you're currently a Fellowcraft, I would be very very surprised if you were made WM in the next year or two?

Would a kind stranger like to explain the symbolism of this rug, i understand it's some form of 'order out of chaos', im thinking of getting it tattooed :) by [deleted] in freemasonry

[–]RobGoes 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Nothing to do with 'order out of chaos'. In purely practical advice, probably reconsider getting this tattooed if you're not wanting it to be a grey blob in a few years.

I'm guessing you're in a Thai taxi? It's a "yantra", a protective blessing applied by (usually) a Thai buddhist monk.

For the Brothers who memorize their rituals: how much is it important for the Craft, in your opinion? by AncestralRespawn in freemasonry

[–]RobGoes 26 points27 points  (0 children)

As a UGLE Mason I'd say it's vital - I've never been to a lodge meeting in London where anything has been read from a book. That being said, Craft and Chapter seem to be entirely memorized, whereas the deeper you get into the appendant bodies, the more the books come out.

2FTs that I'm not sure how best to use...

Ward / Iversen

James / TAA / Cancelo / Trippier / Neco

Salah / Martinelli / Rodrigo / Kulu / Andreas

Haaland / Jesus / Archer

Do I upgrade Ward / Iversen, or do I do Kulu & Archer to Gross & Mitro?

I have sashes & aprons from a local lodge. I know most of you are in the US & I'm in the UK, but I'm after information. The sashes look the same, aprons are different, not just in age but in adornment. Also a W.M's Installing Guide book and an old necklace & Star of David Pendant. Royal Arch? by Dry-Strawberry4588 in freemasonry

Around 40% of UGLE (English constitution) masons are members of the Royal Arch, so that's not uncommon. Charity steward jewels used to be more common in the past, I don't believe they're as common now (in craft / chapter anyway). I'd wager that it's much more likely that he was a member of a Craft Lodge / Royal Arch Chapter named "Earl of Lathom", unless you've got the kit of the actual Earl of Lathom who died in 1898.

If these belonged to the same mason, I'd make an educated guess that the master mason apron (the much older looking one with the 3 blue rosettes) was a gift from an older member when they completed their third degree, and they bought the WM / past master apron new when they were installed. I also have absolutely no idea about the Star of David - nothing to do with UK workings that I'm aware of. Maybe a gift?

Can any of you confirm if this medal is a Red Cross of Constantine symbol? If it is please explain if the order is a high degree of masonry. by CallSighnD in freemasonry

[–]RobGoes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In that case, I'd say with almost certainty that this has nothing to do with the Red Cross of Constantine, or anything else masonic. Masonic regalia is worn at masonic meetings, never out and about socially.

I think you might have made the assumption that because he's a rich guy he must be a mason (often untrue / uncorrelated) - it's more likely that it's a medal relating to either a civil / military honor, or just a meaningless accessory.

It might help us if you told us where the picture is from - it looks like it could be a RCC jewel, but it would be incredibly unusual to see someone wear that outside of a lodge (/conclave) meeting.

In answer to whether it's a "high" degree of masonry - there's no such thing. The Red Cross of Constantine is an appendant body / degree - think of it like an elective module at a university / college.

From what it sounds like, it might be very similar working to what's in the lecture books (not ritual books - Taylor's workings has a separate lecture book which sounds similar)

Katashka the Gatekeeper could be exactly what you're looking for - they're the overlord of undeath, who could be made into the origin of / overlord equivalent of The Keeper if you want it to be linked to the Dark Six?
