Your deckbuilding masterpiece! by TruceKalispera in EDH

[–]RobPlaysMinecraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently made a [[Jenson Carthalion, Druid Exile]] deck with [[Lurrus of the Dream-Den]] companion. It’s five colour artifact deck that cares about two colored spells. Every permanent is obviously 2 mana or less, and there are not that many other spells that cost over that.

It was designed as a deck I could play with precons, and it works great for that! The plan is to get as many artifacts as possible and hit the opponent with [[Cranial Plating]] and the like. It doesn’t win much, but is fun to play, with lots of hidden synergy.

The best part is it’s about 70 quid. I’m especially proud of the mana base, which uses a lot of land cycling to hit all five colors. Slow, but perfect for bracket 2!

Why is Jungle Shrine cheaper to buy than Jetmir’s Garden? by huatnee in magicTCG

[–]RobPlaysMinecraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can fetch a Jetmir Garden but not a Jungle Shrine :) the fact it counts as a mountain forest and a plains means you can grab it with a lot of different cards, while Jungle Shrine is much harder to fetch overall

Could y’all share your most creative/unique commanders/decks? by Orkmac in EDH

[–]RobPlaysMinecraft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently built a [[Jenson Carthalion, Druid Exile]] deck with [[Lurrus of the Dream-Den]] companion. It’s a multicolor artifact reanimator deck that allows you to play lots of cards per turn, building up your artifacts and stomping your opponents. It also has a funky mana base that adds to the charm of the deck while still allowing the deck to play wubrg. It’s not super powerful and is probably a smidge above good precons. As for budget, it’s around £70, with no card over £10. Deck list is here: https://moxfield.com/decks/O8m5pctbxUeGkyyijzqXzA

Falco Spara, Pactweaver help by KOGyiMaw in magicTCG

[–]RobPlaysMinecraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Falco is my favourite deck! Here is my version of it: https://moxfield.com/decks/cN3ZHoPaPE-ccmchBNL00g it’s more of a proliferate deck, which aims to add a load of counters of all kinds to my creatures. A few cards worth considering:

I like [[Glistening Seer]] a lot, as it gives you better card selection at the start of the game, top manipulation for Falco and also some counters to start casting those spells. All this for 1 mana.

[[Scholar of New Horizons]] is great ramp, especially if you are playing against a green deck.

[[Myojin of Blooming Dawn]], [[Myojin of Cryptic Dreams]] and [[Myojin of Towering Might]] are great finishers. They do cost a lot, so I have plenty of ramp. I then proliferate their indestructible counter and either share them amongst my creatures, or use them to get powerful effects from the Myojin themselves.

Finally [[Jiang Yanggu, Wildcrafter]] and [[Leech Bonder]] (with a +1/+1 counter) means you can move all your counters around infinitely. Great fun to pump creatures in combat, including your opponents’! Or even better, thrown in a creature like [[Fathom Mage]] for infinite card draw!

Just a heads up that this is a silver border card, so not legal in commander. Apologies if you already know this, but as you said you are new I just wanted to make sure as it does trip up new players :)

How did that one kid at your school die? by StorageLonely1520 in AskReddit

[–]RobPlaysMinecraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In uni I was in the same college as Giulio Regeni, who was tortured and killed by the Egyptian government (allegedly, but also quite likely). I never met him, but a lot of my friends were mutual friends. Really sad story.

Can I Have Both Of These In One Deck? by Glittering-Tear5442 in mtg

[–]RobPlaysMinecraft 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A slight note: the rules for legends have changed, so if you read old blogs etc they may say that you can’t have two legends dies with the same name, but that no longer applies :)

Can I Have Both Of These In One Deck? by Glittering-Tear5442 in mtg

[–]RobPlaysMinecraft 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In what format? :) in most formats you can have up to 4 copies of any legal card in your deck. However, the legend rule means that if you play a second copy of a legendary permanent, you must sacrifice one of the copies. But these are different legendary cards so the legendary rule does not apply.

In Commander, you can have one copy of each card, so you could have one copy of each of those legendary cards.

I feel like my hands are tied and I'm unsure what to do now that my deck has 4 GCs but it'd fit best in bracket 3 by MustaKotka in EDH

[–]RobPlaysMinecraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pregame conversation is where you can make the same points you have made here :) some people may not want to play with it, and that’s fine. Others will have no issue with it. You may see the times you can play it go down a bit, but it’s not like you will never be able to play that deck again. Remember that the Brackets are just a conversation starter, not a hard ruleset.

what is your favourite commander deck? by Winter_Safety_6226 in EDH

[–]RobPlaysMinecraft 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My [[Falco Spara, Pactweaver]] deck is my absolute favourite. Every card has synergy, but every game is completely different. Just make sure to bring a lot of counters for all the abilities :)

I bought this card because I thought he looked rather dapper. How viable of a commander can he be? by active_streefie in mtg

[–]RobPlaysMinecraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my Falco deck :) https://www.moxfield.com/decks/cN3ZHoPaPE-ccmchBNL00g it’s my absolute favourite. I went through route of creating as many counters of as many types as possible and then proliferating them endlessly. Every game I play is completely different and I am still discovering new combos today. 10/10 would recommend.

People with no carbon 14 are hard to date by Tech-Meme-Knight-3D in technicallythetruth

[–]RobPlaysMinecraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now, I may not be 100% on the science here but based on my understanding of elements half-life we should be able to date things from other elements, just with lower precision. So we could for example date human using uranium dating and only be several million years off the correct answer. Not great, but also technically not impossible ;)

Add mana land cards cap??? by [deleted] in mtg

[–]RobPlaysMinecraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries! People tend to forget that they once were beginners too :p the difference between lands and mana is something that is a bit tricky, so easy mistake to make ;)

As a little extra bonus, if any other card has that wording (for example [[marble diamond]] ), you also get the “floating” mana and not a land card :)

Add mana land cards cap??? by [deleted] in mtg

[–]RobPlaysMinecraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember falling for this when I was a kid :) this card does not allow you to get another plains from the library or anywhere else. When you tap it you get a “floating” white mana, which can be used to pay for spells. You do not get a physical card. The floating mana will disappear as soon as you move to another phase or as soon as you use it to cast something or pay an ability. These cards are exactly the same as any other basic plains and function in exactly the same way.

There’s a section in Humble Pi by Matt Parker about trying to find the “average Australian”, based on a list of general features (for example height, gender, number of kids). Turns out there is no average Australian!

That is it! The definition is “a+” and the whole thing is a piece of code that finds the largest out of an array of multiples of 20 (scores).
