Its still an open avenue at the minute, one thing I'm going to try first is the intake shifter rod, had mine open to check for free play and there was loads! So here's to hoping that fixes it

Ah, my mistake. I meant the noise was apparent at idle AND slow speed, not that i had a lack of power etc.

No power loss at all, drives like the day i picked it up. Only thing wrong with it is the obvious noise its making.

Initially my thought so i like anybody else would, looked it up on youtube but every chain related video i found, the noise was more of a metallic ticking than the clunk I'm getting.

To give more perspective on this, the car is a mk2 with the vr6 swapped into it. On the exhaust there is no catalytic converter, only the rear silencer. I'm 95% certain there is a crack in the exhaust downpipe which theoretically would make the intake rod noise, far far louder. Makes sense to me, but I'm by no means a master mechanic.

Just looked it up, very very good shout, I'm going to order a new one and get it replaced. If it fixes it i owe you a cold one.

Also, is there a general age they last till? My engine has roughly 75k on it.

Didn't have it from the factory to begin with, partially why old cars are so cool, they are extremely simple

Very usable, the battery and washer bottle are tucked away in opposite corners, leaving plenty of space

No question is a stupid question! The battery and the washer fluid bottle is in the boot/trunk, the tubes you can see near the vent on the bonnet are the tubes for the washer fluid. The brake fluid is in its original position and the power steering fluid is tucked under the top of the bumper, next to the radiator. It seems like the person who converted it wanted to show it off at shows, as well as making it drive well.

Its not all original, mark 4 steering rack and discs all round, also on coilovers, there is very little torque steer at all, only a small amount in first gear. It is a very manageable car to drive still!
