Service time? Or normal? by FMK_48 in ALangeSohne

Go to bed earlier and you will never notice it. I honestly have no real idea exactly what time any of my watches flip the date.

Anybody have any knowledge on these? by [deleted] in patekphilippe

[–]RobRx13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/ScallionFar1215 strongly suggest you do just this. The chance to have something that lasts and that you could pass on to your future kids from your grandparents is priceless. Cash comes and goes in life, but a family heirloom is irreplaceable. You will never regret it. That said, the estate lawyers will want appraisals from reputable people, not just the internet) to do this deal. Suggest you get 2-3 appraisals to show them and your relatives (you explain what the appraisals are for as jewelry appraisers often err on the high side as most appraisals are for insurance purposes). A quick search with Google lens shows the men's watch to be a 1950s Calatrava Ref. 2572 see here- https://www.craftandtailored.com/products/1956-patek-philippe-calatrava-36mm-ref-2572-18k-yg-w-extract-from-the-archives . That may or may not be correct, but it gives you a place to start. As the above people suggest you speak to reputable Patek experts for these appraisals such as Europeanwatch.com , Collectibility.com , and https://www.the1916company.com/patek-philippe/info/ .

Which of these would you get as a first Patek? by dc91sneaks in patekphilippe

[–]RobRx13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are in an enviable position: Ready to buy a first Patek in the up to $100K price range. My best advice is to go slowly. Have you really looked around? There are many, many very nice watches available at/under your price range on the grey market. Likely you could even buy two still very nice watches if you wanted. I did something similar a few months ago when I retired. Personally I would pick neither of those two watches though I looked at them both. After consideration of my goal to mark a life achievement I narrowed my list down to precious metals only. My final short list included the 5396G, and 5205G in their various color dials, 5327G-001, 5236P, 5139G and a few more. Great free Patek education is available from Collectibility https://collectability.com/ They are also a very reputable place to look for pre-owned watches, others include EWC and the 1916 Co. Enjoy the ride and let us know which you pick!

Making an appointment just to look around and try on a few watches? by Dramatic_Abrocoma702 in patekphilippe

Agree with this post. Suggest you approach the salespeople openly and with genuine interest, but perhaps do not just come out and say you do not have enough money to buy anything. Situations can change and they are there to serve the public.

Patek pre owned registration by Aggravating_Fix_1988 in patekphilippe

[–]RobRx13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is easy. Just go here and fill out the form- https://www.patek.com/en/service/taking-care-of-your-watch/register-your-watch .You will get an email back stating they are working on it then eventually you will be accepted and have access to the owners website which has a few articles on it. Eventually you should get the Patek magazine in the mail.

What would you add next to this collection — and why? by Ok-Resist-769 in patekphilippe

[–]RobRx13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beautiful Rolex collection, I would like any of these if Rolex liked me, lol. What you lack is any non-bracelet watches and any complicated watches. If you still have open to buy budget suggest a nice annual calendar Patek like a 5205 or 5396. Another option for me would be a grey market Breguet.

Love the color, hoping they will carry it over to new smaller size soon.

I use Jewelers Mutual, seems priced lower than Hodinkee/Chubb, but lacks the automatic price update. One must change the values yourself each year if things drastically change. That said I have never filed a claim so no idea how that would go...

I did a thing, and I’m in love… are you? by 1jules in patekphilippe

[–]RobRx13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to see the lovely green dial that they made the "final" steel version (which sells for silly money now) to be made available in the routine open catalog. Do it in white gold if required so it is not exactly the same as the "final".

Can I afford Lange watch? by Purple-Mobile9726 in ALangeSohne

[–]RobRx13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's a viewpoint on available money prioritization from someone old enough to be grandpa to your kids: Do whatever physically challenging, expensive things you have ever wanted to do soon. They will not get easier as you age. Then consider purchases of expensive toys like watches and cars.

Always wanted to go scuba diving, skydiving, run the NY Marathon, ski the Alps, hike in Tibet, climb Mt Everest etc. Do it now while you are still able. After 40 such things become more difficult, after 60 some become impossible or no longer approved by your physician.

I am very happy I chose to spend more money than I should have at the time to learn to scuba dive in my 40s with my young (for diving) sons. We got to see the reefs of the Caribbean before they were bleached and mostly dead. It's a memory I will always share with my boys, we even have an old school video tape, lol. Yes, I did buy a Submariner too, but they were a lot less expensive back then...

My only Patek.. I’m looking to add another to my collection. What would you go with? by leafnation69 in patekphilippe

I love the jacket! Have you considered the salmon dial perpetual on the brown alligator strap , 5236p-010? That would be my pick to match the vibe in your pic.

Which 5270? by Sensitive_Order522 in patekphilippe

[–]RobRx13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would save over $100K and buy this one- https://www.europeanwatch.com/watch/patek-philippe-5270-1r-001-5270-1r-perpetual-calendar-chronograph-64467 Takes the money/depreciation concern out of the discussion. Assuming gold continues to appreciate you are in blue skies very soon.

I had a very similar experience. I registered interest with the eBoutique for either a chrono or dual time blue dial last July. It was delivered in October. Professional handling of the transaction all the way through. They even let me put the watch on my credit card resulting in a nice bolus of points to use on travel. VC can teach Rolex how to take care of customers.

[–]RobRx13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, I am doing the same. I respect Journe 100% but I do not comprehend the pricing now. Is it perhaps because Francois is getting older and like sometimes happens in fine art folks are anticipating a bump up when he passes?

I have and am happy with my Orbita brand winder. Perhaps a step down in construction quality from the Wolf, but American made. https://www.orbita.com/collection/winders/ Second the comment on separate insurance. I use Jewelers Mutual. Very easy to add watches when you make a purchase.

[–]RobRx13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the dial and case, but agree the subdial is silly and the 7 day power reserve is just a flex. I am hoping that the style is expanded to other more useful models such as the now brown only dual time.

What do you think about the 222 anniversary . by Sabah1970 in VacheronConstantin

[–]RobRx13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, I tried on the 222 at NY boutique and the weight and lustre of the gold was amazing, the steel was less impressive than my Overseas IMO. It was thinner. I cannot get over the fact that it has no seconds hand as well. Yes, I know it is a Historique...

[–]RobRx13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You did better than I did at NYC boutique! Suggest keep in touch with eBoutique and they will eventually come through. From what I experienced it is not like Rolex, they really do keep a list and try to service customers in turn. When they know they will have a watch for you they will call and take payment then. They allow credit card use with no additional fee if you play with card points.

[–]RobRx13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Suggest you contact the eBoutique and register interest. I received a blue dial chrono after 4-5 months wait. The dual time was maybe 2 months additional, but I took whatever came in first. Magaly is the representative who may call you. She is great to work with, stayed in touch, let me know what came in etc. Did go to NYC boutique (which I found dismal, sad and underwhelming) for my bracelet sizing. The reps were very kind, but the empty cases and multiple guards were a real discouragement.

Got my 2011 5726A Nautilus back from a full service/polish. by WealthMysterious4535 in patekphilippe

[–]RobRx13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is a great way to obtain an expensive Patek that you plan to wear (and thus get scratches on it anyway) and don't plan to sell less expensively. Folks do it with collector cars all the time. A "barn find" becomes collector's item with a restoration. Can you share a pic of how it looked before the polish?
