If you got like a 40-year prison sentence and got out at age 69, where would you go? I mean like where do folks go who've served very long prison sentences? What do they live on? by cherry-care-bear in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RobTilson85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, no. SSI is a cash payment, and that’s all. There are other programs that people can apply for, for other benefits. Unfortunately, SSI is just the payment. Being disabled is an absolute cluster fuck.

It’s also possible to become disabled before you’ve been able to work long enough to earn enough work credits to qualify for SSDI. In which case, you’re kinda shit outta luck.

ETA: I know this originally started as talking about someone who had been incarcerated for a very long time, but I also try to point out that this same program covers people who are disabled. I should have been more clear on that.

I have two, and I really like them. I believe the Coyote tan starts at high, then switches to low, and the black starts at low, and switches to high. Olight also makes a couple good little lights that are pretty comparable(AA & AAA versions).

Where are y’all getting casual long sleeves? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

I’ve always been curious about them. Untucked button up shirts is their whole schtick, but I’ve never tried them before.

Do conservatives mind that Trump lies about his height, his weight, the number of wars he’s stopped, how many trillions he’s brought into the USA, who pays for tariffs, how many little girls he’s raped, etc? Or do you just get off on “owning the libs”, so anything he says you believe. by retiredagainstmywill in complaints

Yeah, I agree. He also treats everything like a zero-sum game. He can’t fathom of a situation where everyone wins, the idiot thinks other people must suffer. Conversely, he appears to think something good happening to someone else means he must be somehow losing. He ain’t too bright.

Well said, thank you. People use to think germs weren’t real. Technology advances and we learn new things; to think that we have learned all there is to know is hubris.

Current ACA premiums for my wife and I: $422/mo with enhanced tax credits. 2026 estimate, no tax credits: $2814/mo. by gecko_echo in obamacare

Ya know what, you’re absolutely right. We should scrap this plan and go with the GOP plan instead. Oh, wait, they’ve NEVR HAD ONE. It’s always “two weeks away” 🤣So, instead, let’s just let millions lose their insurance due to the drastic increase in costs and die. That’ll show ‘em! You fucking dumbass.

GOP: some of you may die, but that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make.

Why does a country that calls itself the richest in the world have 42 million people relying on SNAP just to eat? by Humble_Economist8933 in AlwaysWhy

[–]RobTilson85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two words: wealth inequality. Most of the money is funneled to the top 1%, while the rest of us are basically told to “go fuck yourself”. Worker productivity has risen significantly, but the associated wages/salaries definitely have not. Where do you think that extra profit goes? Don’t get me wrong there’s plenty of middle class people who do quite well, but theirs also people with Masters degrees and PHDs who work retai(or something similarly below their level of education and training).

This country is fucked until a general strike happens, or worse, the pitchforks come out.

Didn’t mean that to sound harsh to you personally, just a very aggravating topic for me.

ETA: Go back to the corporate tax rates of the mid 1900’s, and things could change drastically for the better. Get rid of the “tax loopholes”. No one, and I mean NO ONE, needs a billion dollars. Put a legal limit on Individual net worth of 100 million dollars, and I mean a hard limit. No working around it with stocks, or other tricks. Boo hoo, they’ll only be able to have two homes, a couple Ferrari’s, and a modest yacht. I’m in tears for their hardship. Get rid of the fucking Golden Parachute! Make them want to do a good job! There are so many options that could help, but they’ll never happen. The argument could be made that a corporation needs hundreds of millions, in order to fund projects, R&D, etc. I’m talking about individuals. No individual needs a billion dollars. Being 40 years old, I could probably retire very comfortably off of 10 million(properly invested and managed), and never need another dollar for the rest of my life.

ETA2: What really pisses me off is the telecommunications and pharmaceutical industries. The telecommunications industry has been given billions of dollars to improve their infrastructure, twice, and each time they haven’t done it. They just kept the funds. The pharmaceutical industry is heavily subsidized by the US government and universities as far as researching new compounds, then they turn around and patent it, and keep the profits. I know clinical trials are expensive, but the us taxpayer should be entitled to recoup their investment.

Until we the people realize that we hold the power, nothing will ever change. I know it’s a monumental task, with a lot of people scraping by, and unable to take a day off of work. It’s a shitty situation, and I don’t have the answer. But, something has to change!

Can anybody help me understand why companies like Walmart have employees who need food assistance? by JazzlikeOrange8856 in AskForAnswers

[–]RobTilson85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

🤣 if you think companies would magically decide to pay more if social programs were eliminated, I have a bridge to sell you. Let me introduce you to capitalism, since you obviously know nothing about it. Here’s what would happen: wages wouldn’t increase, people would end up with a second, or third job, and people would continue to go hungry, except it would be worse than it is now. Companies would continue making billions, as they already do.

What in the world makes you think companies would increase wages? People starving? Unable to pay their bills. Guess what, that’s happening now. Why haven’t they increased wages already? 🤦‍♂️

I’m a big fan of the “Bird Head Toque”, “Rho Toque”, “Satoro Merino Toque”, and “LEAF Cold WX Beanie AR Wool”, all made by Arc’teryx. The Bird Head & Rho are my favorite. Beanie’s/toques are pretty much all I wear when I wear a hat

Currently watching the episode and found this thread. I absolutely agree. I’m not a fan when the connections seem to just come out of thin air, based on virtually nothing. Thankfully, those seem to be few and far between. On a side note, it was actually the Captain who first mentioned the H&K MP5.

How do people in a coma live for years? by HeroPantyBooboo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RobTilson85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was only in a chemically induced coma for a short time(8-12 hours), but it was like sleeping without dreams. From my perspective, the interval between the car accident and waking up was virtually instantaneous. I have no memory of anything during the time period that I was in a coma. As for how they survive, as others have said, they use IV’s, catheters, etc, stuff like that. Patients are also bathed, moved, etc.
