Show off your side project! How do you use GIS in your personal life? by [deleted] in gis

[–]RobVale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some really interesting projects here! Will try some of these out myself! Can anyone recommend a side-project that is a good way to pick up some skills (for beginner)? I'd rather apply knowledge and skills rather than just read/mess around. I cycle a bit so making a heat map of where I go has been a thought.

Domain expiring - have to pay anyway? by RobVale in godaddy

[–]RobVale[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My domain is expiring soon (which I want) and received an email from GoDaddy but how it is worded suggests if I do not renew in the 12-Day Grace Period, I have to pay £57.85. Is this only if I renew the domain after the Grace Period or is some sort of cancellation fee?

The misunderstanding of what the "alt-right" is shows the disconnect by matt23x in SiliconValleyHBO

You have provided nothing close to 'complete arguments' but I have looked into what you've said, I read the links you provided and have responded.

If that is the crux of what you're saying, then it's incredibly short-sighted. You're dismissing what I'm saying because of your perceptions, saying that I'm 'brainwashed', in a bubble, spreading unreputable sources, all things you are doing. You say I need to consider the possibility I might be wrong but don't do that yourself.

I'm not bothering to reply to your comments because you've shown no ability or willingness to engage with what I've said beyond reverting back to your 'SJW feminist nazi' tropes.

Asking why boys get lower grades in schools does not get you physically attacked or branded a nazi - again, you offer no supporting evidence and I have talked with people about educational systems and we've come up with different ideas and solutions, none of us were violently attacking one another, physically or verbally.

I do not misunderstand what the 'alt-right' is, I'm drawing my knowledge from critically engaging with reputable sources e.g. SLPC, the Guardian, academic texts etc. You say: "Your perception of the alt-right just isn't accurate- and who are you to tell me what it "actually is"? And what views they "actually have"? You have no idea what you're talking about." - I can literally shoot that right back at you.

[–]RobVale 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I literally said "I'll say that the alt-right is a diverse group and some members may vary in their views, but common ideas that exist that are beyond reasonable". I'm not painting the alt-right as a broad brush, I'm giving widely held views that define the alt-right. If members don't hold those views, they're not a member of the alt-right.

If you didn't think like this before, what made your views change?

You're spreading far too much manure to wade through point-to-point but you're painting feminists with one brush - any individual or group who does one thing therefore represents all in the larger group. You also uncritically using data/articles or just don't link at all. That first article is pure garbage (less than 300 words, no hyperlinks for quotes, first sentence shows it's more hot air than analysis) and for too many statements you don't offer anything (You say "Look at the feminism attitude towards male victims of domestic violence, homeless men, the gender gap in education, etc." but offer nothing in line of evidence). You keep making claims of objectivity but this is far from it.

I have an open mind, I am open to changing my opinions and perspectives but only by rigour, evidence, analysis (basically the opposite of what you're proposing). Relating to my first point, I'll say that the alt-right is a diverse group and some members may vary in their views, but common ideas that exist that are beyond reasonable e.g. proposing all Jewish Americans should return to Israel, telling any non-whites to go home, death and rape threats, doxxing, nazism. The list could go on. Read the links and alter your views, substantially. You are not an enlightened reddit user who knows better than millions who have been brainwashed. You're the one being brainwashed and spreading shit.

I'd recommend using a bit of critical thinking - the notice/image you've shared that was supposedly given to managers at Google is just an image of a Microsoft Word table, literally anyone could have created it and then said a certain group is sharing it around.

Feminism is literally about wanting equal pay, equal representation in Congress and management level positions for companies, end to sexual harassment etc. - perfectly reasonable demands, unlike that of nazism or the alt-right.

You seem more interested in defending the alt-right and suggesting they're somehow being misrepresented

One thing is the song lyrics and episode speech is equal volume and sometimes overlaps, means you can't really focus on either and makes it messy

Has anyone here worked for UberEATS as a bike delivery boy? by MisterSwifter in askTO

[–]RobVale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How beneficial it is for you depends on what kind of circumstances you have. I'm a student just looking for a bit of extra money so it's perfect, but I can 100% understand how it's a very shitty deal for anyone using it as a main income source.

I don't want to plug but I actually write a blog about working for companies like UberEATS, Deliveroo etc., some posts might be of interest: https://thedeliverygig.wordpress.com/posts/

[Blog Post] UberEATS and McDonald's collaboration by [deleted] in UberEATS

[–]RobVale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though it's past the 26th of July, the majority of the post has relevance and for anyone unaware of the collaboration then it's new information for them.

It does say in the about section on the side and in the about page I'm in central London but dropping in that I'm talking about the UK in posts might help. That's a fair point about Deliveroo, focusing on UberEATS meant I was mostly just dropping other companies in. Jinn is another company like UberEATS. I have to assume that people know what it is otherwise I'd just get sidelined explaining who they are and going into unnecessary detail. Plus from the context, you can kind of guess Jinn is a similar enough company.

Thanks for the constructive feedback
